Not in MY name.

Open letter to the Edinburgh District Council/Scottish Parliment/UK Government.

Dear Sir/Madam
The reason for this letter is to straighten out between you, The faceless government, and I, the reasonably upstanding member of the community, my reasons for non-payment of the council Tax.
Though I do not disagree with the councils need to charge for such services as sanitation, water, rubbish collection etc. I do disagree with the occupation of Iraq by the armed forces of my country.
As my taxes to cover this war are taken straight out of my wage packet I have no power to stop this tax from being paid. Therefore I am refusing to pay my council tax.
This may be a futile gesture on my part but I cannot with good conscience support this war in any way.
Our democratically elected leader choose not to listen to the people who elected him when more than one million people took to the streets to protest this war so I am choosing not to listen to the government when it demands that I pay for the killing of innocent people.
Dissent and rebellion are an integral part of democracy. This is my rebellion.
