How To Help

Belegarth Medieval Combat Society Fighters Manual
There are a couple of manuals out on the internet that can help new and advanced fighters learn more about the sport. Kage decided however that even though he had been beaten to the punch by another fighter to write a manual he wrote one of his own. The manual covers many aspects of the sport of Belegarth Medieval Combat Society. It is still not finished but keep checking back for more updates on it. Also this manual is a read only text, please email Kage for a hard copy.

Making a Sword
There are many designs and documents about making swords. The Best one that I have found is one written up by Bhakdar. His sword design is extremely durable if it is well taken care of.

Making a Shield
There are many designs for shields that are in use of Belegarath. The most common shield on the field is the scutum or rectanlular shield. Scutums are mostls punch style shields. Also thought there are heater shields, round shields, and kite shields. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages, but the use of which one used is normally decided by the unque fighter using it.

Making a spear
Spears are very sadly and uncommon weapon on the fields of Belegarth MCS. Spears are great weapons on the battle field, and once a fighter gets good with one the shield wall that they work with will be almost unstoppable. Spears are great tactical weapons that all tactical units should have.

Making an Axe
Axes are a semi common weapon used in Belegarth. They have some advantages over some weapons while having disadvantages over other types of weapons. It takes some getting used to before a fighter grasps what weapons and axe will have advantages over and disadvantges to.

Making a Mace
Maces are a pretty versitle weapons in that they have a cindrical striking surfaces. The cyndrical surface makes it so that a fighter does not have to worry about flat blading an opponent. A disadvantage to this weapon is that the striking surface is shorter than that of a sword.

Making a Flail
This weapon type is called "skill on a stick" by most veterans because a fighter needs almost no talent to use one. A flail is a ball and chain on the end of a stick, that can easly go around shield or the defense. The only thing that is really needed is accuracy. Also it is almost useless against more advanced fighters who use swords because they are more versitle.

Making a Javelin
Javelins are basically thrown spears. They were commonlly used by Roman warriors through out history. Javelins can be very good weapons to have on the battle field at times, while other times they are a kind of a pain.

Making Garb
There are many forms of garb used in the sport. Some garb is built to be used during fighting on the battle field. Other garb is fancier than the normal fighting garb and is used primarily for feast. There are also forms of garb that can be bought pretty cheap at most stores and can make adaquite garb for a new fighter.

Making a Pommel for weapons
All weapons have one, and it is required on all weapons to even pass weapons check.

Counter Weighting Weapons
Counter weighting moves the center of gravity of the weapon so that it can be used more easily during a fight. A well balanced weapon can acctually improve the chances a fighter has of winning during a fight.
