1 Corinthians 3:16
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
This verse really stands out to me because it mentions that we are the temple of God. I think it’s important for us to remember that because so many times we do things to our bodies that aren’t healthy or just aren’t right. Often times we get in the mind set that this is our body and we can do what we want with it, but that’s not true. When we become saved, we are handing everything over to God, that includes our bodies. God cleanses us from our sins and then uses our body as his dwelling place-his temple.
For those of you that need to visualize things, think of a church. Would you trash a church? Or should the church be kept clean? Should a person cuss in church? Run a knife down the walls? Probably not.
The same goes for our bodies. We should take good care of our bodies physically. Showers, eat right…but there are other things we need to watch for also. We need to watch how we talk, not touch others where they shouldn’t be touched, I think you all know what all I’m talking about. I know we all have our struggles because I have them too, but that’s no excuse. We still should do our best, and ask God to help us fight our struggles.
Often times, it’s good to look back at this verse while in a dating relationship. What you do when you’re with your b/f or g/f often affects how you are treating the temple of God. Have you set standards for dating? Are they high enough so you won’t even come close to doing something that’ll really damage the temple such as sex?
Remember, whatever you do with ur body, is what ur doing to the temple of God. So next time you are going to gossip, cuss, skip a week worth of showers (ok, that’s a bit extreme, I sure hope no one really does that), wear skimpy clothes, or make out with someone…remember what ur doing to God's temple.
