HISTORY OF VOLKSWAGEN
The Volkswagen Company started back in 1934, when Hitler asked Dr. Ferdinand Porsche to design a small car he would call “the people’s car”. It was purely made for Nazi propaganda purposes. Dr. Porsche built the prototype, for what we now know as the beetle. The first VW factory was built in Wolfsburg Germany. The company started mass-producing vehicles in 1947 and distributed to Holland. It was only in 1949 that the first Volkswagen came to American soil. And in 1952, the Beetle arrived in Canada. In 1974, the Golf was introduced on the market. Now, in 2002, there are more than 10 different VW models to chose from and more are to come out in the next 2 or 3 years.
