HORTEN PROJECT MODULAR CONCEPT DRAWING

PROGRESS REPORT

w
Feb 12,  Horten Team Project initialized
Because of the great interest in the RC community for a detailed accurate scale version of this aircraft as well as numerous  scale model builders around the globe,  it was decided to form a group or to put it in a much simpler  a work group or team .  The idea and the goal of the team will be the designing and planning as well as the  building of a scaled down version of the Horten HO 229 all wing German prototype fighter of World War Two
w
April 15, Plans have been gathered and consolidated
After months of research through hundreds of online and offline sources and dozens of books, several sets of plans were procured and consolidated into one set along with  over two dozen newly designed cad drawings of the Horten Ho 229 A1.
w
April 18, plans for the Horten project sent to laser cutter
Several sources online as well as offline were searched and researched for what we feel will be the best choice for  our laser cutting service and the final one chosen for the procurement of the the planned half dozen prototype kits .
w
April 20, layout of  Horten prototype outline started
A layout package outlining the planned aircraft with size and scale information was drawn up and along with some basic outlines and information made ready for future team members.
w
April 20, Horten worksheets and project outline started
A step by step procedural guide for each and every team member is in the beginnings stages of development and is being assembled as we now  speak. This guide which will be issued to each and every member of the team will be a   combination assembly guide and daily work  team   journal .   The reason for this type of set up, is to document the work flow and any or all problems  that arise during construction.  Labor times and conditions as well as  materials chosen for specific aspects of the various parts of the aircraft are to be outlined step by step and added to the  journal by each and every team  This journal will be a day by day account of what each team member does and how he or she  choose to do it.
w
April 22, Horten Team members solicitation begins
Solicitations for team member for the Horten Poject has started.   Messages and a rough project outline has been posted to several online sources along with emails sent out to over four dozen Rc clubs found online.
w
APRIL 26, WEB PAGE STARTED ONLINE
A  web page was started to post messages and progress reports for all the team progress as well as updated information and photos.

APRIL 29, FOAM WING CUTTERS  RESEARCHED
As a vital part of the projects goals, " to produce a lightweight foam wing" eight foam wing cutting services have been researched and contacted.    Scale plans will now be sent to each of the companies to review and comment upon.  When the quotes and answers are all returned one or two will be chosen to do the prototype wing construction for the project.

,MAY,8 TWO REPLIES FROM FOAM CUTTING SERVICE RECEIVED
Today we received  are first two replies in the mail  from two of the now ten foam wing cutting services that we have contacted for project estimates and price and information. Unfortunately both were negative . The reasons stated were the complexity of the wing design and the thickness of the foam. One of the two felt it was two complex and should be done according to the plan the conventional way and the other stated they were not set up to cut foam that thick. This may be a major problem of the project and will have to be work out . A conventional wing build is time consuming and as yet to be definitely determined may in fact be as estimated  heavier then the planned foam version. The team director has sent several more inquires to various foam wing cutting services for opinions and price information. I fin fact the wing is to complex fore a one pieces cut the design may have to be changed to a two or even three piece design and attached methods will have to be determined by the team.

MAY,8  VAC FORMER ORDERED
Today an order was placed by the HORTEN PROJECT team director for a vac former machine from  Cross Hobby Tools. It was felt the machine was needed to be able to make all the small parts and canopies for the project. After some web searching and scrutiny of several other companies and machines the Cross Hobby machine was chosen. The largest model they had was chosen and order sent in. Any team member wanting several copies of any part need only send a request  to the team leader.

HORTEN PROJECT MODULAR CONCEPT DRAWING

w
The above drawing is a representation of the Horten Project modular design concept, it is by no means to scale or detailed. It is just a general guide diagram outlining the projects main goal. To build a modular multi piece aircraft  Easy to build and if need be easy to repair. Attachment procedures and fasteners will be studied and determined by team members once the project  reaches the point to where the  final assembly is close at hand.
