Air Cannons

I built a breech loader for my newest air cannon, It is harder than the current designs on the net and takes more machining skills (dremmel tool work) but is less bulky and is my own original, thought up myself, unique (need I go on) DESIGN (Im proud). On how to make the breech loader.

Breech Loader instructions.

WARNING: they may be a little inoherent.

The loader instructions are in Microsoft Word document.

1st Air Cannon

This poor excuse for a diagram is of my first air cannon/ rifle. It was constructed from 40mm and 20mm PVC, used a 20mm brass ball valve and a tubeless tire valve (the rubber one's). The chamber was constructed in the shape of a rifle stock (roughly) and was of the over-under type. It was my first trial at a pneumatic which, I thought, was a huge success. I would recomend a cannon of this type to anyone who was starting out in air cannons. I might have already had a headstart in PVC work seeing my fathers a plumber and I help him alot.

2nd Air Cannon

My next design was pretty much a larger/ longer carbon copy of my first with a few extra's. Extra's include a breech loader, solenoid valve and hopefully a small sighting system of some sort (open sights). All 40mm and 20mm PVC with a few 25mm fittings for the solenoid and breech.

As you can see from the photo's the breech is made up of the barrel with locking 'teeth type things', I don't really know what to call them, and the receiving socket. The receiving socket contains a cut off rod that allows the 'teeth type things' to engage and hold the barrel to the solenoid. The pics should give a fair idea of whats going on.

Above is the solenoid valve used on my cannon with it modded to actuate by air trigger. Modding the valve allows it to open much faster and means you don't have to use electrics. I modded my valve by removing the flow controll assembly and glueing a piece of 15mm copper in the top. The right hand picture is of my trigger which is mostly known as a blowgun.

Little Campa'

This cannon is one made up in a hurry to take away camping. Its was built using stuff I allready had and uses a 20mm ball valve off my first cannon. 25mm barrel is good for spuds and the small air chamber allows it to be easilly pumped up with a hand pump to about 70psi.

Little Campa generation 2

This little air cannon was built to further reduce the pumping needed to charge the cannon for a shot. The cannon has a built on pump, simple breech loader and two different barrel sizes. To load a projectile you simply pull the barrel out, in the valve socket there is a bush that the barrel seats in. The barrel is only held in by friction but this is enough as it takes a strong hand to release it.There it is; pull the barrel out, stab a spud, drop the barrel back into its spot, simple as that!

Ping Pong Ball Launcher

Simply put, this is my Ping Pong Paintball Launcher. The barrel is 32mm which only fits certain types of PPBalls(the orange ones where I live), and the chmber is 50mm. The cannon uses the T-valve detailed in the plans section. Shoots PPBalls great, piston valves definetly have the advantage over sprinkler valves in the power game.
