Half-Life
a
great game made in 1999 which had in my view the best single player mode
of any first person action shooter and even though it is a old game and rather
ugly compared to more advanced games like the Unreal series and Quake.Half-Life
is kept well alive with modifications that are equal to full version stand
alone games in quality and fun to play, like Counter-Strike, Counter-Life,
Day Of Defeat, Natural Selection and many other great mods. Now I will give
a detail account of each mod.
Counter-Strike is probably the most preferred game in the multiplayer shooter
community because of its great realism, and great playability. The realism
in CS is a very good balance of action and tactics but not so reliant on
tactics that it makes the game not fun to play yet makes you have to think
to survive. Another plus with CS is that the weapons are balanced well so
there is not really a case where 1 weapon is dramatically more effective
or 1 weapon is totally worthless.All in all I give CS an A+
Counter-life, My only gripe with the single player mode in Half-Life
is the fact that there aren't that many weapons and the ones they do have
in the game suck rather bad. Counter-Life was the perfect single player mod
for me because it takes the great single player mode from HL and adds Counter-Strike
weapons to the game for a extremely fun single player game. I Give CL an
A+
Day Of Defeat is a WWII based Half-Life mod it is a lot more realistic than
Counter-Strike and a lot more tactical but the best part is its a blast to
play you almost feel like your participating in WWII. One thing i was very
impressed with was the great modeling on the weapons and maps the level of
detail in this mod is the best of any. And if you wanna have practice or
co-op there is a great bot for this game called Sturmbot , it is probably the
best bot made for any HL mod because the bots are about as realistic as the
human players and are very challenging to fight. All in all DoD get an A+
Natural Selection is a first of its kind mod and game because NS is the first
combo of a Real Time Strategy and First Person Shooter that actually is fun
to play. NS takes you into the future as either a Space Marine or an Alien
in a team DM for control of a space ship, but its not as simple as running
around trying to shoot and bite each other because each side can build defensive
structures and resource generators. All in all NS is not your typical mod
and thats the best part of it; I give it a A+
