The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

Summary
This book is about a girl named Trisha Mc who lives with her mom (aka Quilla Anderson) and her brother Pete in Maine. They decided to go on a hike up in the Appalachian Trail in north Conway New Hampshire on a family outing. Trisha brought her doll, Mona (which she brings everywhere) and a set of headphones. She likes to listen to them so she does not have to hear Pete and her mom argue all the time.

Arguing...Arguing...and more ARGUING! All the way up the trail Pete and Quilla argued about the divorce between Quilla and their father a month ago. They were both totally ignoring Trish the entire way. About halfway up, Trish needed to go to the bathroom. She kept on telling her mom that she had to go but she would not listen. So, she stepped off the trail and walked about an eighth of a mile away from it listening to her favorite pitcher Tom Gordon who plays for the . When she was done, she did not remember which way she came. She walked for miles in the wrong direction. Once she realized she was going the wrong way, she started crying and sat down.

She spent days in the woods alone with nothing but a couple snacks, a doll, and her headphones. After being alone for a long time, little girl's imagination goes off the hook making her extremely paranoid. She thinks that Tom Gordon appears everytime something bad happens such as millions of spiders comming twards her, a swamp in which she could sink and drown in, or even a beast-like monster that stalks her and always has his eyes on her. She goes through many different obsticles but Tom Gordon is there everytime trying to protect her. She sees many disturbing things such as slaughtered animals and giant footprints along the way. She walks through the deepest, darkest part of the forest only to try to find her way out. Her paranoia becomes extreme and she becomes afraid of everything, completely going insane. She runs out of food and she forces herself to eat bugs and even dirt at one point just so she could have something in her stomach.

THE ENDING
In the end, she reaches an open area where there are railroad tracks. At this point, she is really paranoid and she sees that beast charging at a fence across the tracks. The book makes it sound like this beast is really there. She ran as fast as she could down the tracks to see a helicopter hovering overhead. She ended up being out there for two weeks.

About the Author
Stephen King was born in Portland Maine in 1947. Steven and his brother lived with their mother in Durham Maine, where the they went to school. They were raised mainly by their mother, their father having left home one day for a package of cigarettes and never returning.

Steven graduated high school in 1966, then went on to the University of Maine at Orono to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in English. Steven met his wife in college. Her name is Tabitha Spruce. Convieniently, they were both working at the Folger Campus Library. In 1970 King graduated, and a year later married.

King was unable to find work teaching, and he and Tabitha lived off of the money he got as a laborer at an industrial laundry, her student loans, and savings. Occasionally Steven would sell one of his short stories, which brought in some money, but this began to happen after many, many rejection letters. His first published story was "I Was a Teenage Grave Robber" in Comics Review in 1967. Steven published stories more often (in men's magazines mainly).

Steven began teaching high school in 1971at Hamden Public High School in Maine. He wrote on weekends and evenings, still managing to write short stories and books. None of the books were accepted to be published until the spring of 1973 when Carrie was published, after King's wife fished it out of the garbage because he did not like it. Carrie brought financial relief, which let him quit teaching.

Carrie made him really popular. He wrote a lot of books after that and is still writing...
