YCS Racing 240SX

I am a DIY Junkie and this page is about my first car, a 1992 Black Fastback 240SX SE. As a DIY Junkie, I like building or modifying and doing my own maintenance on my cars and other equipment. This site is about the car, what kind of modifications I have done, and how to do most of them. I have included a brief description of my car and the history while I have owned it and a brief history of the 240SX. For other DIY projects, I have also included a link to my youtube videos below.

In 2001 I bought the car for $6,000. It was in decent shape, one dent and everything worked. It was the only car I could afford (only car the dealership would let me finance) at the time and I liked the way it handled. After purchasing the car I drove it for about a year before joining the military. During that time I had a three small accidents that scraped up the front and back bumper, put a hole in the right lower part of the bumper, ripped of one hinge on my driver side door and messed up my alignment. At the time I was interested in modifying the car, but I was unsure of what I wanted to accomplish. After joining the military I didn't drive the car again till 2003. By that time I had decided that I wanted to explore the power potential of the KA24DE, since it seemed that very few people were going this route. All the engine ever saw was a set of electric fans and a cold air intake. A trip to Japan in 2004 changed my mind and after returning to the United States I started studying the SR20DET and weighing the pros and cons of that motor. During this time my car was hit in a parking lot, denting the right fender and breaking a turn signal. It also spent about a week in the rain with no windows. Someone decided that they needed my head unit more than I did, while I was out of town. I final choose to get the SR20DET and installed a 1995 motor in the car. I drove with the stock SR for a couple of years, but slowly the desire for more power appeared. I installed a front mount intercooler, HKS SSQ Blowoff Valve and lower temperature thermostat with guture plans to swap the turbo. I quick trade with a buddy also put set of adjustable shocks on the car for a set of extra door I had purchased for fixing the driver's door hinge. Turn out I didn't need them.

In 2007, before I could start swapping the turbo, I had to moved to Washington. Before the move the car hit a speed bump and snapped the studs on the headers and the elbow. This was caused by the down pipe hanging below the frame and the car being lowered. Because the exhaust was being vented into the engine bay the clutch and brake fluid boiled and crippled the car. My future plans at the moment include a stripping the car down to the chassis, repainting the entire thing, rewiring with a harness tuck, rebuilding the SR20 with new internals, replacing the down pipe because of clearance problems, 300zx brake upgrade and replacement of the carpet seats and dash. There is still no real HP goal for the car. My friends joke around saying that this one is going to be an eight second car. I believe to run an eight second ¼ mile that the engine would have to produce around 700HP. I would be happy just to produce 350HP, which should be more than enough keep up with a Dodge Viper.

The first link below is a step by step history from beginning to the current status of the car. The other links below are sections of the car that are divided into separate links that show how to perform most of the modifications. One of the links is the car's facebook page (right now this has the most up to date pictures) and the last is a link to my YouTube channel with some how to car stuff and other DIY videos.

240SX History

In Japan the 240SX is sold as the Silvia. In Roman Mythology Silvia was the mother of Romulus and Remus. In Greek Mythology it is the name of a beautiful nymph. I am not too familiar with mythology, so that is all I know. In 1989 Nissan started selling the 240SX in the United States. This chassis is the S13. Till 1991 this chassis had the KA24E. This is the 2.4L with the single overhead cam. From 1991 till 1993 the S13 came with the KA24DE, which is the dual overhead cam engine. In 1994 the S14 came out. It too used the KA24DE. The S14 last sold in the United Stated in 1998. The S15 came out in 1999 and only sold overseas. The engines in the U.S. S13 and S14 put out about 155HP and 160FT-LBS. of torque. Overseas they were equipped with the SR20DET. These are 2.0L, turbo-charged dual overhead cam engines. The S13 came with two different types of SR20DET. These motors get their names from the color valve cover that came on them. The first is the Red Top. It makes about 205HP and 203FT-LBS. of torque. The second is the Black Top. It makes about 205HP and 203FT-LBS> of torque. The S14 came with a Black Top that received a T28 turbo and VTC (Variable Timing Cam) on the intake side. This motor puts out 220HP and 203FT-LBS. of torque. The S15 motor is mated to a 6-speed transmission and puts out about 250HP.
