Beef Baja Chalupa
Description: This yummy item has beef, lettuce, the three cheese blend (cheddar, mozzarella, pepperjack), Pepperjack Sauce and Fiesta Salsa (tomatoes, onions, cilantro and delicious spices) but is inside a fried Gordita shell.
My Opinion: I don't know how they fry it, but it makes the shell taste more like a pastry than a pita. The fried shell has a nice, rich taste to it. It's kinda hard to describe. It's actually similar to fried dough in texture and taste, but it's not sweet and it's not greasy at all, which is a very good thing. Needless to say, the texture is as enjoyable as the taste. The shell also seems to become thicker when fried in this manner. So how does the Beef Baja Chalupa stack up when compared to the Beef Baja Gordita? The same Baja flavor and beef fusion is here, but it can't be fully enjoyed because of the taste of the shell; the shell makes this item a little *too* rich. It's obviously still good, though.
Chicken Baja Chalupa
Description: Time for the Pepperjack Sauce, Fiesta Salsa, chicken, lettuce and three cheese blend to leave their previous home and go sightseeing in beautiful Chalupapulco! LOL.
My Opinion: In my opinion, this is better than a Chicken Baja Gordita, but for once the Baja flavors are not the front runner of this item. They obviously add to the enjoyment, but most of the enjoyment will come from the way the chicken and the shell taste together. It's very good.
Steak Baja Chalupa
Description: A Baja Chalupa with Steak. Enough said.
My Opinion: Again, the Baja flavors and steak create a hot taste in your mouth. If you liked the Gordita, you'll like the Chalupa. There really isn't that much more to be said.
Beef Fiesta Chalupa
Description: A Beef Baja Chalupa without the zesty Pepperjack Sauce. Fiesta Chalupas were never an official Taco Bell item. Yes yes, no Sauce is a scary thought, but...
My Opinion: ...this actually isn't bad for people who want a lighter tasting Chalupa. The Fiesta Salsa, beef and Chalupa shell are a nice combination. The shell adds some richness, the Salsa adds its yummy spicyness and the beef...well...the beef is always good!
Chicken Fiesta Chalupa
Description: No, nothing's missing...I told them to leave out the Pepperjack. NO, I'm not crazy! Well, sometimes I am, hehe...
My Opinion: I myself would rather have a Chicken Supreme Chalupa, but like the beef version of this, for those that want something light, this isn't a bad choice. The chicken and Chalupa shell go amazingly well together.
Steak Fiesta Chalupa
Description: No heat here, just simple good taste.
My Opinion: People who don't like hot food will like this modified Chalupa. The mild yet spicy Fiesta Salsa goes great with the Carna Asada steak.
Beef Santa Fe Chalupa
Description: Well, I liked the Beef Santa Fe Gordita, so I'm guessing I would have liked this too. This had everything in the Baja Beef Chalupa, except it had the tasty, creamy Santa Fe sauce (a variation of the creamy jalapeno sauce but with more of a smoke flavor and not as hot) and Southwest Salsa (a blend of black beans, corn, red and green bell peppers and a mix of special spices and lime juice). Both have a distinctive southwest flavor.
Sadly, this item was discontinued before I had a chance to try it, but thankfully someone else did!
Monkfish's Opinion: This was my favorite Chalupa until they discontinued it. The black beans and corn gave the item more texture and a more subtly sweet but more 'real' taste to the item. It also seemed more filling. I'm not sure why they discontinued this item but my guess would be that since the special salsa wasn't used in any other menu items, it just wasn't worth the investment to continue this product.
Chicken Santa Fe Chalupa
Description: Read the above description for the Beef Santa Fe and substitute chicken for beef.
Sadly, this item was discontinued before I had a chance to try it, but here's someone who did!
7 Layer Mike's Opinion: The Chicken Santa Fe Chalupa was a lot like the Gordita of the same name, except not quite as good. For some reason the slightly sweet Chalupa shell did not go with the equally sweet Santa Fe cream sauce. It tasted a little awkward, not as fulfilling as the Gordita. The Corn and Black Bean salsa was, as ever, a delicious part of the Santa Fe experience. I am proud to be one of the lucky ones who was able to enjoy Santa Fe flavored items.
Steak Santa Fe Chalupa
Description: Perhaps if I meditate REEEEALLY hard enough, I can imagine what it would taste like...
Sadly, this item was discontinued before I had a chance to try it, but thankfully someone did!
Monkfish's Opinion: Just like this Beef Santa Fe Chalupa, but with steak. The texture of the steak combining with the Santa Fe salsa made for quite a hardy menu item. Almost too good for a fast food item. The Gordita shell was probably more appropraite for this item than the Chalupa shell, but then you're left missing that crispy crunch! I think they'd do well to bring this back actually.
Beef Supreme Chalupa
Description: Simple deliciousness, we've got beef, lettuce, tomato, the three cheese blend and sour cream in the nice Chalupa shell.
My Opinion: Just like Gordita Supremes, the main focus is on enjoying the taste and texture of the shell. This is quite better than the Gordita version because the Chalupa shell has a much more robust flavor.
Chicken Supreme Chalupa
Description: Now the yummy Taco Bell chicken gets a chance to enhance the Chalupa shell, plus everything else. How does it do?
My Opinion: Extremely well! The key to the astoundingly high deliciousness of this item is the way the chicken and sour cream compliment the flavor of the shell! It's great! A well deserved SEAL OF APPROVAL!
Steak Supreme Chalupa
Description: The stuff in a Beef Supreme Chalupa with steak instead. Nuff said.
My Opinion: Again, better than the Gordita Variety due to the richer shell. If you like the Gordita, chances are you'll like this even more, or at least just as much.
Beef Nacho Cheese Chalupa
Description: The nacho cheese sauce flows with the beef once again as the tomatoes and lettuce come along for the ride.
My Opinion: Spectacular! Once again the beef spices and nacho cheese form a special flavor that flat out rules, plus the tomatoes add a nice slight counteracting coolness. Add the Chalupa shell flavor and texture to this already great combination and you have a Chalupa so scrumptious, it's up there in terms of deliciousness with the Chicken Supreme Chalupa! Just like the Chicken Supreme Chalupa, this Taco Bell item now joins the ranks of the items which wear a SEAL OF APPROVAL!
Chicken Nacho Cheese Chalupa
Description: The chicken and nacho combination is snug and cumfy in the thick Chalupa shell. :)
My Opinion: Like before, the chicken nacho combo is good, but it's not as good as the beef combo. The Chalupa shell adds a nice amount of its flavor to the concoction.
Steak Nacho Cheese Chalupa
Description: If you live in Philly and you miss a philly cheesesteak, this just might tide you over til you get back home.
My Opinion: If you like the Gordita version of this, chances are you'll like this too. The extra Chalupa shell flavor is obviously nice.
Chicken Club Chalupa
Description: A Chalupa filled with the usual meat, three cheeses, lettuce and tomato, plus a savory club sauce and a generous amount of scrumptious smoked bacon bits.
My Opinion: This is an awesome addition to Taco Bell's Chalupa lineup! The bacon is very tasty, plus the club sauce is surprisingly delicious! It's almost as good as the Pepperjack Sauce! Everything else about this item adds to the fun like they were made to do. Taco Bell only advertises this item with chicken, which I think is a bad move. Like always, though, I have customized this charming Chalupa with the other fine meats of Taco Bell to unlock it's full flavor potential.
Beef Club Chalupa
Description: Ya know, one of these days I'm going to count up how many Seals of Approval I give to unofficial Taco Bell items...
My Opinion: MMMMMM!! This is sensational! The best part about this item is the harmony of the beef and the club sauce. The flavor is kickass! The bacon also adds it's special touch and seems to go better with the beef than with the chicken! The Chicken version is jealous of this item's SEAL OF APPROVAL!
Steak Club Chalupa
Description: If I worked for Taco Bell, I'd make them so much more money...
My Opinion: Yet ANOTHER awesome unofficial item! This tastes amazing and is equal to the Beef version in terms of deliciousness! In this one, the bacon and steak combination are the key; a wonderful taste! SEAL OF APPROVAL!
Steak Ultimate Chalupa
Description: This interesting Chalupa has steak, lettuce, Fiesta Salsa, the three cheese blend, sour cream and a generous helping of guacamole. No seriously, they put quite a bit in there.
My Opinion: The guacamole takes center stage here...and kinda hogs the spotlight. It's tasty, but it's a little difficult to taste the steak (and most of the other ingredients) because of the masking job the guacamole does. I like how the Fiesta Salsa (the onions specifically) enhance the deliciousness of the guacamole. The guacamole and sour cream combine to create a mouth-watering sauce, like in the 7 Layer Burrito, but if you specifically want to taste that combination, the 7 Layer is a better choice. The shell adds it's texture and flavor to the dish quite nicely.
Chicken Ultimate Chalupa
Description: Time for the chicken to be buried under the avocado avalanche! The steak and chicken versions are officially advertised.
My Opinion: The guacamole and chicken play nice and can both be tasted. This is a fantastic Chalupa; all the flavors combine very nicely, especially the chicken, guacamole and salsa. SELLO DE LA APROBACION! <--AltaVista is fun :)
Beef Ultimate Chalupa
Description: Okay...there's a little story behind this one:

Crazy Gordita vs The Uptight Taco Bell Worker

Crazy Gordita: Hi there, I'd like three Ultimate Chalupas, one beef one chicken one steak...

Uptight Taco Bell Worker: (emphatically) No. We cannot do that. We can't put beef.

CG: Uh...why?

UTBW: It's new, it just came out, it's only with chicken or steak.

CG: Why is it a cardinal sin to put beef in it?

UTBW: ...

CG: You guys have customized things for me before...

UTBW: (looks at me as though i'm some kind of lying sack of crap) Oh yeah? When?

CG: (in disbelief, but remaining calm) ...look I really don't see why there's a problem, it's just another type of meat... (few seconds of silence) ...please?

UTBW: (sighs and goes to talk to the manager, then comes back) (he says this next sentence as though he hopes that charging me extra will disuade me from wanting it) Okay, we're gonna make it into a Beef Chalupa Supreme and put guacamole on it and charge you extra.

CG: (completely unphased) That's fine. (gets ringed up) Thanks man, I appreciate it.

This is the second highest level of resistance I have ever gotten when trying to get a custom order at a Taco Bell (to look at the highest level, go to the burritos page and scroll down all the way to the bottom). Usually they don't mind at all. Also, and I'm gonna sound like a broken record but I don't care, I will NEVER understand why Taco Bell doesn't just LET ALL MEATS BE USED ALL THE TIME. I mean, I can understand why you can't change the meat in things like the Chili Cheese Burrito and the Spicy Chicken Burrito, because those meats are cooked in a special sauce and they can't put another meat in there (not to mention the chicken in the spicy chicken burrito is shredded especially for that and the Spicy Chicken Tacos), but as far as something like this goes, it just does not make sense to me...
My Opinion: ...oh, and the beef version TASTES AWESOME. Better than the steak version, just as good as the chicken version. It's good for the same reasons as the chicken version. It gets a SEAL OF APPROVAL just like the chicken version. So what have we learned from this lesson? NOONE GETS IN THE WAY OF CRAZY GORDITA'S CUSTOM TACO BELL FOODS! :D

Beef Ranch Chalupa
Description: Chalupa shell, lettuce, beef, ranch, nothing more.
My Opinion: It took some effort to get these, since they messed up my order the first time and gave me three supremes instead, but it was worth it. This tastes even BETTER than the Ranch Gorditas. The rich, crispy Chalupa shell goes great with the beef/ranch pairing. DEFINITELY get this version.
Chicken Ranch Chalupa
Description: Chicken, ranch and delicious fried pita. How can you go wrong?
My Opinion: This is right up there with the beef version, very tasty.
Steak Ranch Chalupa
Description: Steaky ranchyness wrapped in fried stuff. :: Borat voice :: Very nice, I like!
My Opinion: These three are actually pretty much equal, I like them a lot, there is just something about the Chalupa shell that makes this particular item much better! If I were forced to pick a favorite, I would say beef because, surprisingly, it blends best with the new Taco Bell Ranch Sauce.
