Dr Mikao Usui

The Reiki Art of Natural Healing was discovered at the turn of the century by Dr Mikao Usui. He was a professor in Christian theology in Kyoto, Japan. He taught his students that teachers, such as Jesus and Buddha were in contact with a transcendent source of energy when they taught and performed healing. He believed that this source is always present. The question was: how to make contact with it. To find what he sought, Dr Usui spent many years traveling, studying ancient texts from both Eastern and Western traditions. These years of study and prayer prepared him for a deep meditation in which he received the gift of healing. After many years of healing others, Dr Usui decided to share his knowledge with some of his students. Dr Usui' s method of teaching and healing is passed from teacher to student. This healing art is now know as Usui Shiki Ryoho or The Usui System of Natural Healing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word which means Universal Energy. Reiki is a blend of cosmic energy (Rei) and the energy within us (Ki). It is the energy of life, of growth and healing. Reiki is a natural healing art and a spiritual discipline. You transmit healing energy through the hands - to yourself or to others. It operates on all levels of our being: physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. For a person in good health, Reiki offers a pleasant way to relax, to relieve stress, and to increase vitality and energy. Reiki may be used to facilitate the healing of illness and help the individual return to a state of wholeness and balance. It can strengthen the immune system, eliminate toxins and release emotional blockages. As it works on all levels of our being, Reiki provides a powerful tool for personal transformation and growth. Everyone can learn Reiki. All that is required is a willingness to connect with this form of life-energy.

A Reiki treatment takes place with the client fully clothed, either sitting or laying in a relaxed position. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance which can enhance other therapies as well as be used alone.
