Role Play Background:
Ashlee Ikeda is pregnant and Tony couldn't be happier. A baby will soon be on the way.
*It's late afternoon, Tony and Ashlee Ikeda are finishing their lunch. Both are sitting at the kitchen table in their house. Ashlee pushes away from the table.*
Ashlee Ikeda: Well I guess I'll get going now.
Tony Ikeda: Where are you going?
*She reaches for her tennis shoes, putting them on.*
Ashlee Ikeda: Just going to the doctor, no need to worry.
Tony Ikeda: What does she need to do today?
Ashlee Ikeda: I don't know I've never done this before. She called it a check-up.
Tony Ikeda: Oooh, Check-up, sounds serious...would you like me to come with you?
Ashlee Ikeda: Well honey, I'm going to have to go to the doctor one hundred times, no not unless you want to.
Tony Ikeda: I don't mind at all, I think everything is pretty cool.
Ashlee Ikeda: Well OK, grab your shoes, we're going to be late.
*He grabs his shoes, they leave.....we find them again in the check-up room at the doctor's office, Ashlee up on the bed, Tony in a chair, the doctor is walking in.*
Doctor: Hi Ashlee, how are you? You must be Mr. Ikeda, nice to meet you. Here's what we are going to do today. If everything is how it's supposed to be, and I'm confident that it is we will be able to hear a heart beat and see some very obscure blobs on a television screen. That sound like fun?
*Ashlee just sits quietly.*
Tony Ikeda: I think it's more fun for some than others.
Ashlee Ikeda: What is that supposed to mean?
Tony Ikeda: I don't have to have ice cold gels rubbed on my stomach.
Ashlee Ikeda: Are you kidding? If all it takes is a little bit of cold jelly to see my child on a TV screen, I think I can endure that. Now do you want to be serious during this defining moment of your life, or do you want to wait outside.
Tony Ikeda: Sorry, I'll shut up now.
Doctor: By the way, there's absolutely no way we will be able to tell today, but in the future do the two of you want to know the sex of the baby?
Ashlee Ikeda: We haven't really talked about it.
Doctor: Do you want to go home and talk about it?
Tony Ikeda: Well, I'm fine with whatever you want to do honey. I would be just as happy knowing as being surprised.
Ashlee Ikeda: That's something I'm going to need to think about.
Doctor: Ok, well first thing is we will start with the heart beat, I will turn this monitor up, and this is what we want to hear. You're going to hear two noises, a loud noise, a soft noise, they can be counted of one two, one two, one two.
*The doctor places a stethoscope attached to a machine onto Ashlee's stomach, and the sound pours into the room. The doctor smiles.*
Doctor: Well mom and dad, that's your babies heart beating.
Tony Ikeda: Wow.
Ashlee Ikeda: You took the word right out of my mouth.
Doctor: Except, well, let's take a look.
*The doctor pulls out The Badd Boy's dreaded jelly, and puts a thin layer on Ashlee's stomach before pulling out the ultra sound equipment. She turns it on and the screen comes to life.*
Doctor: That's what I thought.
Tony Ikeda: Uh...What did you think?
Doctor: Well...
*She points to the screen.*
Ashlee Ikeda: No, don't tell me, I don't want to hear anything bad.
Doctor: Do you see this dark blob here? I'm happy to report that this is one healthy baby.
Ashlee Ikeda: Good.
Tony Ikeda: Ok.
Doctor: Unfortunately, Mr. & Mrs. Ikeda this dark blob over here is probably something you weren't expecting.
Ashlee Ikeda: Oh my God I have cancer or something.
Doctor: Actually, that is a second healthy baby. Congratulations you are having twins.
Ashlee Ikeda: What!? He's not even ready to be a dad to one baby let alone two.
Tony Ikeda: Why would you say something like that?
Ashlee Ikeda: I don't know I'm freaking out, we're going to have to buy a new house. We need a new house.
Tony Ikeda: We have space, calm down.....Holy sh!t. *He grabs her hand.* I don't believe it, those are our children, right there is the beginning of what will soon become many years of parenting.
Doctor: There's only one thing I am concerned about. At this stage of the game, carrying twins, you should have gained a whopping five pounds. You have gained two. Eat, and you sir had better make sure she does. No exercising other than walking, no arguing with me about that, and I don't want to see you anywhere near a wrestling ring.
Ashlee Ikeda: But...
Doctor: You are not out of the woods yet. One slip, one fall, one hit, one strain, it could ruin everything. I know your headstrong, but there are people who don't give a crap about you, or your children, and in your line of work you could get very hurt. You have two more months of traveling with your husband, then that ends too. Do you understand?
Ashlee Ikeda: I hear what you are saying, but I definately do what I want, when I want.
Doctor: Not if you want these babies you don't. You keep an eye on her Mr. Ikeda.
Tony Ikeda: Better yet, two...
Doctor: Cute, also so you know, if I can be perfectly blunt with you, get all the lovin' you can now, because that's going to have to end too. You two can go home, and I'm not kidding, if I see you anywhere, anywhere near a ring I'll put you on bed rest, and then you won't do anything but lay in a hospital bed for nine months. Now I will see you guys in two weeks.
Ashlee Ikeda: Thank you.
Tony Ikeda: Yes, thank you doctor.
*She leaves the room.*
Ashlee Ikeda: Well I wasn't expecting that.
Tony Ikeda: Don't think I was either...
*She pats him on the head.*
Ashlee Ikeda: Good work.
Tony Ikeda: You d@mn right.
Ashlee Ikeda: Now let's go get in the car. I never thought I would say this, but I'm thinking I need a couple of double cheeseburgers.
Tony Ikeda: Sounds great.
Ashlee Ikeda: Oh and just so you know, and I don't want to hear about it, Sunday, I'm going to New York City, to MSG, and I'm going out to the ring, with Wes, and Raptor is not going to pull any sh!t. No arguements.
Tony Ikeda: Then I'm there too.
Ashlee Ikeda: No. You will be a threat to Raptor and your brother. Neither of them will be able to concentrate because you will be there. That and I don't think you want Wes to win.
Tony Ikeda: For one, I don't mind having Wes to slap around yet again, but this isn't up for discussion. You are not going near a ring without me there.
Ashlee Ikeda: Bullsh!t. Or what?
Tony Ikeda: You want to lie in a bed for the rest of your term?
Ashlee Ikeda: That's bullsh!t too. Just wait you'll see.
*He shakes his head and they leave.*
