Note for June 25, 02: - We started the ascent at 6:10 a.m. Back to the car at 2:30. Summited at 11:20. Most of the ascent is a toil, but the views are well worth the effort. It would have been a more enjoyable climb if more snow was on the slopes because treadmilling up 800m of scree gets very tiring.

Dates Summited -August 25, 01

Elevation -3161m(10,371Ft.)

Elevation Gain - 1500m

Location - Banff National Park

June 25, 02- After hopping, crawling under, strattling, walking accross, and snagging your legs on fallen trees for around an hour and a half, you'll come out of the approach and into this valley with the ascent route in full view. On the way in to the upper valley we thought you had to bushwack the whole way but coming back down we found the small trail leading right to the highway.

June 25, 02- After gaining many scree-slogging vertical meters we finally were getting some views. The view of the Bugaboos was great.

June 25, 02- This is the final slog up to the summit. I'm the black line in the center of the photo. The ridge was corniced pretty good. I wonder how much weight those things take to break off... Anyone know?

June 25, 02- After many tedious hours I topped out on the summit. The views were nuts. The mountain dominating the panorama was Mt. Ball - a 2 day scrambling trip. It looks mighty tempting.

June 25, 02- Speak of the devil. Here it is. Mt. Ball in all it's glory. The route starts out on the other side of the mountain, ascends Beatrice Peak then takes the connecting ridge up to Mt. Balls summit. It is probably about a 16-18 hour day. "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies" (Under Guidebooks) explains this route in fine detail.

June 25, 02- Summit views.

June 25, 02- Now the best part of the day. We had a blast glissading down the steep slopes. They lasted forever too. One of these days I'm going to bring along my crazy carpet and make a day out of it.

June 25, 02- When we first crossed the stream at the beginning of the day I lost my balance on a log and got my feet soaked. By the end of the day my feet turned into prunes. This was my last ascent for my old boots. The seams ripped apart and I could see inside my boots. I wouldn't recommend buying MEC brand boots.

June 25, 02- Finally, I have my own car! This was my first trip to the mountains with it. Its an 89 Dodge Daytona and has 200,000 kms on it.

June 25, 02- This is where we slept the night before we climbed. Right now I am half way in Alberta and the other half in British Columbia. We slept on the B.C side of the parking lot.
