Note for July 20, 01: - Me and Colin left from the parking lot at 11:00 A.M. The weather was perfect with a slight breeze. We were on the summit at around 12:45. At 3218m, Mt. Rae is one of the tallest mountains in the Kananaskis range and holds a very nice view. From the summit we could see the buildings and towers of downtown Calgary.

July 20, 01- After following the Ptarmigan Cirque trail for 30 min. the trail rises into an alpine meadow. Follow the trail to the back end of the cirque and go past a creek. The creek is a good place to rest on the descent and have an ice cold refreshment. Here is Colin and I in the meadow.

July 20, 01- When you get to the end of the cirque you are faced with what is seen in this picture. The rock is loose and it takes alot longer to get to the col than what it looks like.

July 20, 01- Here is Colin ascending the rock to get to the col. This is what the angle is like for most of the time up to the col.

July 20, 01- Once you gain the col, Mt. Rae's glacier bursts into view along with the rest of the scramble. We stuck to the top of the ridge for most parts but ducked down to avoid the pinnacles a couple of times.

July 20, 01- Here Kyle is ascending a cliff band on the ascent. Near the top, a little bit of exposure slows you down because of the large drop-off to the right.

July 20, 01- After 2 Hrs. and 45 Min. We made it to the summit. The view is great in all directions. We even saw the buildings of downtown Calgary from the top. Mt. Rae takes very little time and energy to ascend considering it is the tallest scramble in Kananaskis.
