Note for Aug. 16 00: - We started from the parking lot at about 10:00. For access to the Chester Lake parking lot, look in "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies." The weather was cast-over. The distance to Chester Lake is about 4 km. After that follow the Scrambles book for the approach and climb. The only obstacles on the Fortress is The steep 45 degree slope up the col and the small 2m cliff right below the summit. For variety we took the descent via the Headwall Lakes trail. The waterfalls there are amazingly beautiful.

Dates Summited -Aug. 16 00(Kyle summited, Ian waited at top of Col)

Aug. 00 16- The route from Chester Lake (body of water on right side of photo) ascends to the col from the right. The way we descended (Headwall Lakes) takes the exit through the valley on the left. It adds a few more kilometers but the views are alot better than from Chester Lake. The mountain in the middle of the photo, blocking the two valleys, is Mt. Chester.

Aug 16 00- Here is a picture of Kyle on the summit. The mountains in the background are of the Kananaskis valley. Ian stayed at the col because he was tired and didn't feel like carrying on. Once you have the col done, it is pretty much straight forward, with a little bit of exposure. This mountain holds great views. Right in front of you is Mt. Assiniboine dominating the other mountains. This summit shows the routes up Gusty Peak, Mt. Galatea and the Tower perfectly. You can even see Mt. Joffre, past kananaskis Lakes.

Aug. 00 16- Here is a picture of a waterfall right before you get to the first Headwall Lake. It is very green and in an alpine environment. The main feature of this fall is that it comes straight out of the ground, with out warning. The waterfall looked so cool, that I was taking as many pictures of it, as a Tourist taking pictures of Cascade Mountain, on Mainstreet Banff!
