Note for August 18, 01: - Ian, Colin and I climbed Castle Mountain in 4 hours and 10 minutes. The view was pretty bad because of the fires in Kooteney. The route up Castle Mountain looks like it will take alot longer than it actually does. Allow around two hours up from Rockbound Lake. Ironically enough we met up with people we knew from the hiking club at the trail head and two young guys from Calgary that we met on Mt. Tyrwhitt closer to the summit. Castle Mountain was a pretty popular peak that day.

Dates Summited -August 18, 01

Elevation -2766m(9,075Ft.)

Elevation Gain - 1400m

Location - Lake Louise

August 18, 01- After hiking for around 2 hours you will reach Rockbound Lake. After hiking above the lake, climb up a grassy slope and traverse ledges to gain castles ridge. Here is a picture of Ian and I looking over one of the cliffs with Rockbound Lake below.

August 18, 01- Here is the vast part of the route up to the summit. It isn't steep at all and takes alot less time to hike than what it looks like.

August 18, 01- This is Helena Ridge from the ascent ridge of Castle. The route ascends the rubly slopes onto the summit. A long extension to Castle mountain would be to climb Helena Ridge, Castle Mountain, Stuarts Knob and Television Peak in a day.

August 18, 01- Here is Colin, Ian and I on the summit. The views were not the best because of the fires in Kooteney. In the morning, the smoke was so bad that driving to the trail head, all the mountains were covered in haze. Castle Mountain is a definite grunt but well worth the effort.
