Note for February 9, 02: - This was my first day of a two day course with the ACC. I learned how to move on ice and all of the technical rope handling techniques. Johnston's canyon is supposed to be one of the best places to start out ice climbing because of its close location to Canmore and its easyness.

February 9, 02- I took this picture when we got to the falls. Shortly after the picture was taken, the top climber in the photo knocked down a piece of ice that hit his belayer in the face and they left to go to the hospital. I started getting a bit apprehensive.

February 9, 02- After we walked around on the ice for a bit to get used to having metal crampons on our feet we got to get vertical. The ice veterans said the ice was in really good condition.
