FOCUS ON REALITY

A prominent Christian apologist recently accused atheists of anti-supernaturalism and of bias towards materialism. A desire to engage in certain "immoral" lifestyles, it is alleged, predisposes someone to be anti-religious and against all that it entails. Is this a reasonable accusation? I don’t think so.

Accusing someone of bias for materialism is akin to accusing them of bias towards breathing. The material world is all around us and we are part of it. We can touch it. We can feel it. We can measure it. We can even devise ways to perceive those material items that are invisible to the naked eye. So materialism is not a philosophy that can be disputed or requiring proof anymore than breathing is a viewpoint that requires validation. It just is.
