In Memory of Chad Robert Ondes

March 15, 1982 - April 18, 2000
C.R.O. #20

April 18th the day of days
On this day the hurt hit deep
When I heard
I hit my knees
The friend I had from day one
Went too fast
And now his life is done
I still can't see
Why it had to be
The friend so close to me
The sleepless nights
The tears that flow
Can't stop the pain
Of the Chad I know
He was too young
To leave so fast
Not saying bye
But went on past
Even now the pain
Won't end
So until my time is done
His memory will live on

I wrote this poem back when all this happened, and like so many of you, I felt what this poem said. Now through all the pain and tears, I see a ray of light. That ray of light is Chad looking down upon us.

I really didn't know "how it's gonna be" but I knew through God it would be alright because I know "my life is in His hands." After all, in heaven there is eternal life so we can all be "friends" for eternity if we live our lives for God.

Chad was a great example of life to us all. Chad and I grew up together, we used to deal cards in church and many other things as well. The Sunday afternoons we spent at each others' houses... you know Chad got lost in Mode on my bike? Lost in Mode! Boy how time flies and we don't even realize it until it's gone. So next time we are around friends or family lets remember it could all disappear in a second. So lets show love to each other instead of hate. Well Chad, from me and the ones who knew ya best this is our "last kiss" to you.

I love ya Chad and I miss ya! - - Nathan N.

Chad Ondes was held in the greatest affection and respect in our community, our schools, and the church. LIke so many others who were drawn to Chad by his charm, his Christian example, and his outgoing personality, I was deeply grieved and bewildered by his unexpected death. Seldom have I been so moved as on the morning after the accident when I walked into the Cowden-Herrick High School. There I witnessed the profound and heartfelt sympathy not only of the student body, but also the faculty, as I saw you in groups with the silence only broken by muffled sobs. You, as the student body and faculty, are to be commended as you all waxed valiant during those sorrowful days. You supported one another and Chad's family as you demonstrated an unusual spiritual resilience founded on your faith in God. All of us are poorer for Chad's death, but he will always remain in the memories of those who loved and treasured him. Life is brief regardless of how long we may live, so live with eternity in mind. Chad left us an outstanding Christian witness to which we would all do well to heed. We pray God's best gifts for you as you accept the challenges of life and take God's hand as you walk into that mist called the future.
Sincerely,

Pastor Thomas S.
