EWD's Archmage Guide to Building

The majority of players on Archmage have misconceptions on how the server runs the calculations for buildings. The basic assumption is that you can build only one set of buildings in a turn and another set requires another turn. This is evident in the multitude of Strategy Guides I've seen, and written in the passed. A legend in the game, Euphorion, approached me a time back and showed me a new way to build. His teachings revealed that there is a method of building more efficiently. After testing what he explained, I had come to realize that I had been playing very inefficiently for over 6 months now. I have also created a Building Calculator that will help you determine the most efficient way to build.

For example, We have 55 Workshops. This would allow you to build the following per turn:

Farms 11.2
Towns 1.86
Workshops 5.6
Barracks 11.2
Nodes 1.86
Guilds 2.8
Forts .18
Barriers 1.0

Now, We used to think that it would take 1 turn to build 5 workshops, and another turn to build 2 guilds. But, The server doesn't. Say you want to build 5 workshops. The server divides the number you requested, 5, by the max per turn, 5.6 and stores the resulting .8928 as the number of turns you have spent. Then it repeats the process for the next set of buildings. What if you also ordered 1 Farm along with the 5 Workshops. The server then divides the 1 farm you requested by the 11.2 max/turn and adds the .0829 to the .8928 already spent. Now, you have built 5 Workshops and 1 Farm in .982 Turns.

Now, naturally, players don't want to spend all day doing math for a simple game. That's why I do. To make it easier for you to "Guess" how many of each type you can build, look at the chart below. It shows you how many buildings you can build compared to Forts, since they are the smallest denomination.

Looking at this chart, you know that you can build Farms twice as fast as Workshops. Meaning if you can build 5.6 Workshops per turn, Then anytime your left with Half a workshop max, then you can build 1 Farm without expending another turn. In kind, if you have 1.86 towns/turn max, then you can guess at 1 town and 1 of the other buildings (excluding the fort and barrier). Generally, this will work best if you have 299, 399, or 599 Workshops. Then all of your max building rates will be even whole numbers and easier to work with.

Also for your information, Here are the formulas for figuring the Max/Turn of each building:

W = Number of Workshops; M = Max per turn
Farms M = (W + 1) / 5
Towns M = (W + 1) / 30
Workshops M = (W + 1) / 10
Barracks M = (W + 1) / 5
Nodes M = (W + 1) / 30
Guilds M = (W + 1) / 20
Forts M = (W + 1) / 300
Barriers 1.0

Note: Barriers are always at a constant building rate of 1/turn. I do not know if having one of the unique artifacts or Heroes will modifiy the barrier rate or other bulding rates. I have done much research on this, but again, as math is never a perfected science, I may not have the exact data the server has. This may result in slightly varying results, but I'm certain that this information is accurate.
