Crawl, walk, RUN
I found this on the The Delta Force Barracks Map Making Forum. It just goes to show that not all Aussies are like the scatter brained Steven Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter). I would like to thank Slaughter*AUS*for allowing me to add this great bit of info to the site.

Hi all. I know there are a lot of map makers out there that are very competent at what they do, but this is for the people like myself that would just really like to know how to get started.
Firstly. After opening up the MED, you must go to general information (file, general info).

In the GI menu there are several options to get you started. Mission name/designer/terrain & item color. Try to keep the item color to match the terrain you selected IE: snow map, White items etc.. I have had problems by not doing this.

Sky settings. You may change this by clicking in the tabs & changing weather conditions. To keep things simple if this is your first map, do not change either of these yet.

Map types. Simple to use, just check which type of map you wish to make.

Terrain overrides is where you can add water level/fog density & the color of the fog. Not to confuse yourself if this is your first time, do not use this as yet.

Now click ok & it will build your options that you have set. you will be looking down on the map from directly above. NOTE: you may zoom in & out of the map using the Page up & page down buttons also by holding down the CTRL button & then clicking the right mouse button, it will center the map where you clicked on the map. Now right click on the map & some options will pop up, select insert mode.

Now left click on the map where you wish to place an object & all the items will be put in front of you to select. 1 at a time.

Now right click again & click on insert mode again which will unselect insert mode. Once you have put enough items on the map that you wish to work with.

I selected a bunker. Once you have an object on the map

click on it to highlight it, then right click to bring up the options. Click on item attributes.(You may also click on MOVE to move it around the map.)

Position. the left Z value is the height of the ground. IE: 0= ground level, 1=?feet of the ground ETC. Only with practise you can guess where it goes the first time. Till then you must check it in the game itself, as with all the positionings. All the other values in the positioning I do not touch as I know not what they do at this point.

Facing. In this area you can change which direction the item is facing IE:heading 90=east etc. Pitch means you can put an item on the side of a hill & have the item on the same angle as the hill.

At this point, this is enough information that a beginner needs to know. As you get more confident, you may do other things in your options.
Now after clicking the OK button , you must save it to where ever you want in your HD if you wish to re-edit this map (no doubt you will) this will save it as a .mis file as you cannot edit a .bms .

Now to put the map into your game.
Export binary mission, remember when saving the map, always name it the same so there is no confusion. This now converts it to a .bms .

Don't forget to add some start points from the markers section when adding items to your map. IE:start blue/red team , koth center. All that stuff is vital to your map. REMEMBER this is for the newbies out there so don't go getting to technical on me ok.

LOL...cya's.
