The 1907 trunnion-post bascule bridge on North Avenue over the Chicago River is being replaced with a new cable-stay/suspension hybrid span. In the meantime, traffic winds around a maze of ad hoc asphalt and over a temporary steel bridge by McHugh Construction, who is carrying out the project.
Da Vinci had some interesting temporary bridge solutions that might have worked, too, but I figure they had this modular steel x-truss scheme worked out with an efficient budget. Leonardo Scheme 01
