SPORT CLIMBS
Sport climbing is a huge sport in Alberta and rightly so. There is nothing like taking a step off the valley floor and immediatly being transformed into an inverted world of warm limestone and quartzite, composed of faces, cracks and aretes. It's 30*C and sweat drips from your forehead and lands onto your next foothold. Luckily your protection is at most 10ft below and completely bomber, so the possibility of a long fall slowly escapes your mind and you eventually become comfortable with these heights. Soon you become lost in the rock and the day becomes a blurr complete with sunlight, and the sweet satisfaction of the rock.
A popular valley crag, just west of Heart Mountain near Canmore. A great place to build up skills with alot of climbing in the 9/10 grades.
With a cool and fresh Lake around, theres not much more you could ask for in a crag.
Colin and I first climbed here in the summer of 04 when we were living in Lake Louise. A few weeks later Tanner moved to Louise also. Tanner took to the rock in no time and thats where we ended up spending many of our days off.
