CALENDAR

Troop 412 had only three meetings before the parade but worked hard as they made their own banner and tie-dyed T-shirts for uniforms. Robin dressed up in a clown costume and threw candy to the crowd as the Troop 412 girls marched and sang, without accompaniment, from Girl Scout camp songs to recent pop hits. Pictures are available online>>

I couldn't be prouder of our girls.  We had so much fun and I really appreciate the help and support of the parents. Great Job!

Our Investiture/Rededication Ceremony was a great success despite the last minute changes.  Once again I really appreciate your participation in this event as much, I'm sure as do the girls. Pictures are available online>>

CALENDAR SALES:  We have finally received our calendars, our first fundraising event this year.  They are pocket calendars, and sell for $3.00 each.  We don’t have too terribly many of them, so each girl will get 2 to sell. If we have any problems, we can try to sell them at a booth at the Killen Winter Carnival (date yet to be announced).  Cookie sales will not start until January.

26 NOV: No meeting this week!! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! Just a reminder, your scout can see Polar Express for $1 if she brings the attached form, filled out, with her to Foster Theater Friday morning. The movie starts at 10! If you can't print the form, don't worry... there will be forms available at the theater!
3 DEC: We are scheduled to participate in the TINSELTOWN PARADE on Kadena on Friday December 3rd. We are to meet at O’Connor Gym at 16:00 (Risner Parking lot on Kadena), and the parade will start at 17:00. This parade should only last about 30 minutes, starting at the gym, and ending at Schilling Community Center. If your daughter will be attending, she can wear her tie-dyed shirt, or uniform if she has one, or something Christmassy… and please have her wear sneakers, as we’ll be walking. Our parade patches are on order!! Also, if you’re interested, the Nutcracker Cirque is starting right after the parade, and I hear it’s a wonderful show! If you need transportation, please let us know your physical address (housing area), and we will try to make arrangements.
10 DEC: Our meeting will be as scheduled, at the Girl Scout Hut, from 5:30 to 7.
11 DEC: We’re having our Christmas Party on Saturday, 11 December at the Girl Scout Hut. We will be using the Boy Scout room, which is just on the other side of the hall from the room where we usually meet. We would like to make this a potluck, so if you could please let us know if you can bring something, we can make a list so we don’t have 20 green bean casseroles. Our sister troop will hopefully be able to attend, and we would like to have a gift exchange with them. Please, no gifts over $8.00, and please no CD’s or DVD’s, as they may not play in Japanese machines. Our sister troop will let us know within the next couple of days if they will be able to make it for sure. PLEASE, let's try to get all the girls to attend. If you can get a gift, can't send anything for potluck, or need transportation for your scout, let us know. We will do our best to help out.
17 DEC: Our meeting will be at regular time and place!
24 DEC: NO MEETING, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Cookie sales will start in January! Our cookie mom is BETH DOMINGUE, and she will be our coordinator! You can reach her at bethdomingue@hotmail.com or 646-6761. THANK YOU, BETH!!!

We have been invited by our Japanese Sister Troop to participate in a Mochi Pounding Ceremony with them near Camp Kinser.  I will forward more details as they become available.

CHRISTMAS PARTY:  Our Japanese Sister Troop, #28 from Naha, would like to participate in a Christmas party with us.  Anyone who would like to help plan this party, please let us know.  If your family is planning to take leave during this time, let us know when, and we will try to plan around as many vacations as possible, so most of the girls can participate.  Also, I believe the sister troop’s leader doesn’t speak much English, so any volunteers who can translate would be greatly appreciated!
HORSEBACK RIDING:  It seems that most of the girls would like to complete the horseback riding badge.  We are still looking into all the details, and will let you know as soon as we have more information.

UNIFORMS AND SUCH…  As we said at the parent’s meeting, Girl Scout uniforms are NOT necessary.  We will be making our troop shirts, which the girls are welcome to wear to meetings.  They may also be interested in purchasing a sash or vest that they can display their badges on.  These are available at the Girl Scout Store, located in the Girl Scout Hut.  Their hours are:  Mon, Wed & Thurs 11:30 to 14:30, Tues 16:30 to 20:30.  They’re closed the first Monday of the month.  The sashes are $4.75, and the vests are $14.75.  There are also some patches that identify the troop number, the council, and such.  On page 46 of the Girl Scout Catalog, numbers 5, 5A, 8 and 12, for a total of $10.25.  Again, these are NOT NECESSARY PURCHASES.

Also unnecessary, but available, are the Junior Girl Scout Badge Book and Handbook.  Seperately, the Badge Book is $11.95 and the Handbook is $10.95.  Packaged together, they’re $21.50.  If you are interested in buying just one, I’d go with the Badge Book.  It will be useful if your scout wants to work on badges at home.  Once again, as you look at all of this adding up, please remember that NONE of these things are mandatory.

AND FINALLY… If you have not done so already, please try to fill out the forms for the girls and get them back to us.  Our most pressing concern is medical forms so we know about allergies and medical conditions BEFORE we go on any outings.  It wouldn’t be fun to be surprised and possibly have an emergency on our hands.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and participation!  We look forward to making this a fun and productive year!  Please, feel free to contact us any time with concerns, suggestions, etc…
