Design of an Expert Portal to Enhance the Sharing of Knowledge in University School of Computing

Abstract

This dissertation highlights the potential use for Knowledge Management and a web portal for sharing expertise in higher education. A knowledge elicitation method (an adaptation of the ASHEN model) was used to identify knowledge objects that could populate a web portal to enhance the sharing of knowledge across 15 staff members of a university computing department. In addition, this model discovered communities of practice that were used in the portal design. Overall, the adapted ASHEN model was an effective knowledge elicitation tool and showed promise for the use of such techniques in the design of knowledge systems.
