Elizabeth Smart

Bringing Elizabeth Home June 5th, 2002, at 3:58 in the morning, Salt Lake City, Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her bedroom in which she shared with her sister, Mary Katherine. Mary Katherine ran to her parents saying Elizabeth is gone and that she was taken at gun point. Her parents searched the house thinking she could have gone into another room or something. She was no where to be found. They called the police. Many neighbors were awaken to help search for Elizabeth and to check their children and houses for any clues to where Elizabeth could have gone. The Smart’s were unsure of suspects to report, but some people they could think of were the homeless people they would hire to do their yard work. Elizabeth was abducted by Brian David Mitchell, who claimed his name was “Immanuel” when he had worked for the Smarts. She was taken into the woods a long ways, and while she was with her abductor and his wife, she was made to work for them and serve them. He told Elizabeth he had taken her because god told him to. Elizabeth went around Salt Lake City, where her family was looking for her, with Brian David Mitchell and many people did see her dressed with her face covered except for her eyes. Elizabeth’s family was always working to find her. Throughout the search there were many twists and turns, with many different misleading clues. Many searched went out, many broadcasts were made, and many people were hired in the search to bring her home. They weren’t sure why but the media did pick up on Elizabeth’s story. It was hard to celebrate Christmas and her birthday without her. Ed, Lois, Charles, Andrew, Mary Katherine, Edward, and William prayed many times a day and always kept their strong trust in their heavenly father to help them cope. They are very thankful for the several people that helped to find her. Finally the day came, after nine terrible long months, they finally found Elizabeth. Her appearance had changed in many ways; she grew taller and more muscular from carrying heavy backpacks. Elizabeth and her family were blessed. God did answer their prayers. Her returning was a miracle. Elizabeth Smart was a happy teenager and enjoyed everything teenage girls usually like doing. Her world was completely turned around when she was kidnapped. Elizabeth was a cross-country runner, she loved taking runs with her dad. She also liked horseback riding with her grandfather and her siblings, into the trails and through the woods. Elizabeth was an excellent harp player and her sister followed in her foot steps. She loved playing the harp, and when she returned she played for a very large audience. Her favorite vacation spot was Disney World. Her family went there while she was away, to help them cope. Elizabeth and her family went to Hawaii when she returned. Elizabeth came back with the same personality she had when she left. She wanted to catch us on movie she had missed while she was gone and see all of her friends again. Her favorite movie was "Miss Congeniality", which she had almost every line memorized. Elizabeth is now 16 and driving since the book was released.
