The Nintendo DS is the third pillar of Nintendo- meaning that it is not part of the GameBoy series, but something completly different.
The Nintendo DS is tecnically superior to Nintendo 64, a home console, which just goes to show how such power can be scaled down in such a short time.
Graphics aren't everything though, the Nintendo DS has many other innovations that have never before been seen in a handheld console. The most obvious feature is the introduction of two screens, oneof which is a touch screen, which gives the DS an extra interface and allows users to interact with games like never before. The two screens can be used as seperate views or as part of the same screen, giving a larger view. A microphone is also built in, giving another interface, and backwards compatibility with GBA is the trump card- a real innovation.
