Auto Shop
Auto shop is a 2 hour block class, 5th and 6th hour for me. Usually two times a week we have an hour of class then an hour of shop time, the other 3 days we have two hours of open shop to work on cars. You have to take Intro to autos in order to take autos 1. The intro class is only one hour long, and you learn just basic things. Autos 1 is more interesting and hands on. You learn about brake systems, fuel injection, sensors, and the vehicle computers.
One of the assignments were brakes. Brakes are simple. We first learned all the basic parts of the brake systems (calipers, pads, brake fluid, high pressure lines, master cylinders). We also learned the physics of hydraulic pressure. After learning about them we were showed how to make a flare on the end of the high pressure line, which carries the brake fluid. We were graded on them, if we didn't or couldn't make a flare we didn't get credit. We have a model in the class which is on a cart and is functional. We are using that to see how brake systems work.
