Why I picket Canterbury School.

• My son was going into 3rd grade. I applied to Canterbury.
• Canterbury admissions said their 3rd grade was full and that my son scored lower than those students (though he didn't finish the test) .
• They said Canterbury was a year advanced of public schools and recommended 2nd grade at Canterbury. When I found out it was easier than public school 3rd grade, I withdrew him.
• There was another 2nd grade vacancy, so we didn't displace a paying customer. I asked for 1/3 refund and was refused.

Why I picket Canterbury School. I do it so people will know not to believe verbal statements from their recruiters. Only their contract is binding. Of course, it is my frustration with losing $10,000 that motivates me to stand by the road with a sign (which is no fun), but I feel I am doing good to warn people. When I realized 2 1/2 months into the school year that we were paying $10,000 plus $17 a week for lunch for the privilege of holding my son back a year in school, I was humiliated at my own foolishness. We just assumed anything that cost so much and presented itself so well would be what it seemed to be. We believed that Tycho would be getting a third grade education in their second grade, plus the Canterbury extras of ethics lessons and better curriculum and more activities, because they told us so.
