We live in Budgewoi and we have some bird aviaries so we'll say:

We are located an hour and half north of Sydney and 40mins south of Newcastle on the NSW CENTRAL COAST see map.

We don't claim to be experts nor we do claim to have the best birds or aviaries. But we can say our aviaries are clean, and well looked after as are all our birds. We give our birds between 11-15 fruits and veggie's every day, we wash out and change their water bowls everyday (we have stainless steel bowls for their water and fruit n veggie's which are up off the ground). We sweep out our aviary's once a week or when needed. We supply fresh gum leaves & branches once a fortnight. All our birds are wormed every 3 months with liquid put into their water, while we are worming we don't feed fruits n veggie's for the 3 days. This is not a job or business, this is our hobby and we enjoy what we do, This can be very time consuming at times and patience is a must if you were ever to consider breeding or hand rearing parrots as a hobby.
I don't know what to say or where to start on breeding or rearing parrots, there's so much that can be said. Everything we learn is from trial and error. We have been interested in and kept birds for over 10yrs as a hobby. We also have a lot of books and asked a lot of people questions and still do. I don't think I'll ever know too much on the subject when it comes to aviculture. All I can really suggest is if you found a way that works for you stick to it don't start messing round this could only lead to problems. This is something we do for fun and we enjoy Parrots.
We have a good Supply of calcium for our birds.
There's always a Cuttle fish for them to chew on, plus we sprinkle calcium powder on their seed and when they are breeding we add a little Calcivet to their fruit n Vegies.
HAND RAISED PETS
I personally think it has more to do with the TIME and EFFORT you give to your bird as to how it will turn out. Don't buy a pet bird and just leave it in its cage. Parrots can be fun they bond with people and can understand what you are saying or doing. For a bird to have a pea sized brain or smaller its amazing what pet parrots can do and say with a little love and affection.
i have both male and female birds that are friendly and talk so i don't agree with anyone who says a male is better or a female parrot is better for a pet. They both have their faults. No bird is Guaranteed to talk so don't listen to anyone who says this!
