The Subway

NNMaddox: "The interesting story behind this track is the fact that it is an actual recording of 20 or so people stuck in an elevator at 168th street in Washington Heights.

After a drunken night in July 2003, I found myself trapped in an elevator with absolutely NO breathing room at 5:30 in the morning. After no more than five minutes, I think we all felt like caged animals, and a few people began to get hostile towards the MTA employee. I remembered I had a tape recorder with me. I was able to capture their frustration and also their delight (45 minutes later) when the elevator was fixed.

Miraculously, I managed to spot one of the main voices in 'The Subway' on the B train months later. And believe it or not, he was discussing this incident with a friend. Sometimes you run into people you NEVER expect to see again.

The song in the background is an unfinished version of a B-side called 'Talking In Our Sleep.'"
