Part II of the trilogy. "Crushed Rosemary" was written in a mater of five minutes. Certainly a song that can stand on its own, but instead provides a lead-in to the more downcast "Rosemary Leaves". This song is a more sassy, take-no-bullshit song. Rosemary gets hurt, and wants to give up, begins praying to God and the storyteller is fed up with her weakness.
This song was recorded in a creative fury on April 11, 2003. Before it, Maddox was ready to put the album away forever. Steven Stark's enthusiasm for this song, and more specifically the recurring lyric, forced Maddox into a "now-or-never" mode.
Vocals and music were recorded seperately, and done in one take. Maddox then decided to use backwards masking with the vocals, to give the song more "weight."
"What I love about 'Crushed Rosemary' is that it's a good enough song on it's own without the into and finale. But it's definitely an incomplete story. It sounds like someone telling the latest gossip, but not revealing all that he knows. When I finished this song, I knew that Long Island Baby would finally see the light of day."-NNMaddox
I dont believe in luck
i dont believe in fate
in but you can't expect me
to sit around and wait
no no hunny, dont go givin me that
I dont know why
I should even bother
with 3 hail marys and one Our Father
and i've been giving but it just aint giving back
She looks upset and
Looks don't decieve
and it crushed rosemary
like you wouldn't believe
no no hunny, there's no turning back
But dont give me that
No, don’t give me that
the things i see in color
You see white and black
Don’t give me that
Don't give me that
We’ve come this far
There’s no use turning back
