The Blue Ruse

"The Blue Ruse" is truly a musical experience. Produced by legendary author Jimmy Haig, this song has absolutely no melody, no direction and no lyrics. Oddly enough, this was the first track completed for Long Island Baby. Maddox returns to his roots, by playing feedback noise guitar, while newcomer Kris Columbus churns out a hideous saxophone solo. The efforts somehow wind up matching toward the end.

The true oddity of this "song" though is the sampling of an adult film serving as vocals. After following two relatively accessible songs, "The Blue Ruse" reminds listeners of NNMaddox's grunge/metal past.

"I put this song on the record because I felt that if I didn't, I'd be falling into the trap of creating a traditional rock record. I liked what Haig produced and I wanted to use it. Not including it probably would have been the more commercially appealing thing to do, but I like to challenge the listener. The sample is very unsettling and even I have a difficult time listening to it.

When I was growing up, grunge was big, and feedback guitar was considered cool. I suppose this is sort of a tribute to that. Perhaps a satire, you be the judge"-NNMaddox
