   Pygmy goats

Pygmy goats originated in Africa and were imported to the US in the 1950s.

As it’s name implies, it is smaller than the dairy goat, but it produces an acceptable amount of milk.

A lot of people raise them for show or fun instead of using them for meat or milk.

Pygmy goats are easy to raise and handle, and they are also affectionate, cute, loveable, and playful.

They weigh around 40-70 lbs, and they are usually 16-20 in. high at the shoulders. Young goats or kids as they are sometimes called can be available anytime of the year.

       Pygmy goat colors

   Pygmy goats are usually:

Agouti – Dark goats ranging from silver – gray to black with solid stockings that are darker than the main body color.

Caramel – Light colored goats ranging from white to light brown.

Solid Black – No stockings or white anywhere on them.

Black – No stockings with solid black except around eyes, ears, and nose.

     What they like to eat

Pygmy goats like to eat grain (The best grain I suggest is Cocci-ban) They also like to eat Coastal hay and they LOVE  alfalfa hay but only give them a little. Large amounts of alfalfa hay can cause bladder infections. And they will eat just about any type of weed, or grass growing in your yard.
