Tradewars 2002 Scripts for Telemate
Please visit my new Telemate Scripts for Tradewars site.
It appears that there
are a lot of
dead links that exist on the internet that link to my old web page that was
created and hosted on my university's web server while I was doing my degree.
Since I graduated a while back, and I occasionally get emails from people
requesting info on the scripts, I thought I should put together this page
outlining what has occurred with the scripts.
There has only been one public release of the scripts, Version 1.00 which
you can get below, however I've tinkered with the scripts over the years to work
with the newer versions.I also have
available the source code for the paired port script which has been cleaned up
and commented and
hopefully this will answer
any questions concerning how the scripts work.
I haven't touched the scripts in a couple of years, and don't see the
point of trying to update them further. Telemate is an old DOS
comm program that hasn't been updated in years. TWAssist is an old
DOS program that hasn't been updated in years and isn't totally
compatible with the new version and TW2002 itself (yes another DOS
program) hasn't been updated in years but from what I can tell is still
quite popular.
Also the code really was spaghettied
together so they don't follow any logical structure in certain places.
The scripts were modified originally to work and tested with the new (I
guess it's old now) V3 door version. I have tested the
scripts and they still work on the new version which surprised the heck
out of me since the code is almost 5 years old. I
would suggest trying out the Ether Probe script as I had added a whole
slew of new options (marking avoids, resending probes, etc.)

The one problem with the scripts is
the reliance on TWAssist which as stated previously is no longer compatible with
the new versions of Tradewars. You can get the original version from the
authors site.
I've thought about maybe trying to
port some of the simpler scripts over to another scripting program, but I
haven't really found another telnet/comm program that offered a similar
scripting language to Telemate. I looked at
ZOC and think it might be possible. Anyhow after a bit more research,
it seems that there already are ZOC scripts for tradewars that you can get from
the following sites. When I get some time, I'll try and delve into the
details of the REXX programming language and see if the scripts can be modified
accordingly.
