PRIOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF LOS ANGELES CIVIL SUITS



        A civil court case index review 1985-2002 revealed a total of 50 cases in which Planned Parenthood is the defendant. Below are but a few significant cases.

Civil court Case No. BC245785 March 19, 2001
Kimberly Thomas sued Dr. Joseph Marmet and Planned Parenthood because she almost died from their abortion. She went for a D and E and suffered extensive blood loss, lacerated cervix, a posterior tear of the uterus and a rectal sigmoid tear. After lingering for several hours at Planned Parenthood, she was finally ambulanced to LAC hospital where she underwent emergency surgery with a complete hysterectomy, colostomy and blood transfusions. Marmet did a rapid 6 minute D and E.

Civil Court Case No. BC2228325. May 17, 2000
Giovanna Roncallo sued Planned Parenthood, Dr. Sean Tayebi and nurse Paxton for injuries from an abortion on January 20, 1999. Ronccallo stated that she had the abortion, went home, experienced severe pain and bleeding. When she called the clinic, PP told her they could not give her an appointment for two weeks, that this reaction was normal and she could go on her planned trip to Bangkok. She flew to Bangkok and was immediately hospitalized off the plane. Doctors performed surgery and removed large parts of her unborn baby. She was shown" a piece of the fetal scalp and head." She went into acute depression.

Case No. 238693. October 18, 2000
Colleen Kenny was a clinic manager at Planned Parenthood. She sued them for wrongful termination. A letter in the exhibits states how proud she was that she kept a rapid flow of patients (something that PP demanded) and believes she was terminated because of her arthritis. She alleged that PP thought her arthritis would slow her down and thus, slow the pace.

Case No. RIC380588. August 12, 2002
Megan Alien, former Planned Parenthood manager is suing Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, Encinitas and Riverside for unfair business practices and wrongful termination. She alleges that PP uses unlicensed personnel to perform medical procedures involving abortion.
