Once you have gotten
safely to your destination, wouldn't it be nice to have a place to sleep?
Staying in youth hostels is safe and cheap. Usually you will be sharing
a room and facilities with other travelers. Staying with larger amounts
of people can dramatically decrease how much money you will be charged
for a room. As long as you don't mind staying in a room with eight other
people, you can pay very little for the roof over your head. Some hostels
offer tea, coffee, and rolls with jam or fruit in the morning, and the
good ones should be able to provide you with maps, bus schedules, and
information on local attractions, restaurants, and bars or clubs in the
area. Upon arrival, ask if they have lockers for you to store your belongings
in, or if there are lock out times you should be aware of. Every hostel
has its own style and characteristics - whether you stay in the personal
home of a Portuguese family, or in a 16 person room in a huge hostel chain.
