Literacy Theme Kit Project

Literacy Theme Kits are colorful kits containing puzzles, books, coloring books, puppets, toys, and more that teach children pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Each one is unique and has a special theme, such as numbers, shapes, animals, seasons, holidays, and the like. For example, one kit features Clifford, the Big Red Dog. This kit contains a storybook about Clifford, a Clifford puppet, a coloring book, stickers, and a puzzle. Parents are permitted to borrow the kits on a weekly basis to work at home one-on-one with their children. In return, they must meet with the day care coordinator to discuss their children’s ability engage in the materials. The coordinator then completes an evaluation that is placed into the child’s portfolio of work.
