On August 10th 2001 Valerie Ann Heron killed herself by jumping off of a balcony and fracturing her skull in two places. Valerie Heron was a 16-year-old girl from Alabama whose parents decided to send her away to Tranquility Bay, a Teen Help facility, thinking they were helping their daughter, and their daughter had killed herself while being held in Tranquility Bay against her will, and was made to live under appalling conditions.  To read more on this, as well as other deaths that have recently taken place within these Teen Help facilities, click here: TeenAdvocatesUSA

A girl we’ll call Amanda spent almost two years at Cross Creek Manor, which is a Teen Help facility located in Utah. She was a pretty girl who had the most beautiful, long, red hair. A male staff member began screaming at Amanda for no good reason; calling her a "ugly bitch." The staff member screamed that he was sick of her 'hiding behind her hair,'' because her hair was in her face. The hysterical staff member grabbed a pair of scissors and chopped off all of her beautiful hair, while Amanda begged and pleaded for him to stop, but he would not stop. Not until every inch of Amanda’s' hair was cut off. Amanda lost her beauty.

At the Teen Help Facility Cross Creek, which is located in Utah, a young girl named Celece Dotcherman was abused, humiliated, and tortured constantly. The staff watched when she went to the bathroom, watched while she showered, and was strip-searched unnecessarily and cruelly by staff members. She was pushed out into the hallway by a staff member, and was seen naked by some of the other girls, as well as male staff members. Celece could not stand the staff watching her go to the bathroom. It was humiliating. So, Celece refused to eat or drink, to slow down the digestive process. Eventually Celece soiled herself, and as her punishment for soiling herself, Celece was put in "Isolation." A male staff member duct-taped a plastic leaf bag around her waist, calling it a “diaper.'' They kept Celece in isolation with her ''diaper'' for weeks and weeks. What was called ''group therapy'' often consisted of the therapist ripping posters off of the wall, throwing chairs across the room, all the while screaming about how rotten the kids are. If these girls and boys' parents had any idea what really goes on, they would get their kid out of there immediately.  The sad fact is that these kids are constantly being threatened, told that if they told their parents what was going on there, they would be punished.  They cannot tell their parents what is going on, for fear of the abusive staff, and with good reason.  Just a few months ago, a boy's teeth were knocked out by some violent staff members. That incident took place at the Teen Help facility known as Tranquility Bay in Jamaica.
