AMPULANCE ZINE [ISSUE # 2] - UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Veronica or Victoria (fuck, I dont know which one is which!) traded me with their zine & it was nice of her (Victoria or Veronica? hehe). This is a 29 page booklet with interviews, reviews & the best part is Lets rant articles. There was a bio of bands going to perform in DDR (Dubai Desert Rock) & for me, DDRs line-up this year is not jaw-dropping for me compare to the previous DDR were Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Sepultura, Within Temptation, Children of Bodom, etc. performed. Fuck it, lets stick with the topic. There were 4 bands being interviewed in this zine, and a UAE local DJ name Zahra Soar (uhmm too bad for me I dont listen to FM radio station?). Pretty cool that the band Conquest for Death mentioned that they want to perform with the Middle East bands who are actually my friends (Through Sunken Eyes, Creative Waste, Mushroom Massacre, Wasted Land Nervecell are just my contacts, hehe). Samis guide to Dubai rock is absolutely straight-forward & I definitely agree with most of his opinion and observation about the scene in here. Better watch out for my UAE scene report and my gig report! The MOE emo kids hanging out there is hilarious! I mean, the last time I went to MOE was during Xgames, so Id better observe those Emo-kill-me-I-am-depressed kids.. The thing is, I have been to a fucked-up situation and I also have suicidal tendencies. But its not a fucking fashion were there is a dress code for that or hey, all of us should slit our wrist having the same mark!. I dont have an issue with people like that, its just that its becoming trendy shit. Damn, I am the one who is ranting now.. To sum it up, the zine was ok; although I do notice that the UG mentality is still not there yet. This zine helps to promote mostly UAE bandz, places to check, how was the last gig, yeah, yeah, thats the whole part of a zine. But what abouut a UG band going sell-out? Will you still support them? What if they will give you a chance to interview Linkin Park or Korn? I dont know if some of you get my point, I just met a few people with my UG mentality. But fuck it, these young girls (Victoria and Veronica) did a pretty good job still. Cheers!! Format: half size / 40 pages - Fonda

This, I will be honest. There are past zines before that I don't actually read all of the interviews or reviews. Most of the time just a quick browse to get an idea, that's it.But in this case, I read every word of it.
Starts off with Mickmo's "reality-check" section. I applaud Mickmo's "WORDS FROM THE GRAVE" article, in which his point of view is like a fucking slap on the face of those ignorant ones! You may agree or disagree, all ranting or worth-saying... great2x.
When I first flip it and saw a picture of a belly dancer, it really made me curious. When I read the interview of "Tazina- Metal Goddess Belly Dancer", I was mesmerized. I know the Arab Belly dancing here (hehe) and imagining it with a metal background music is fucking amazing! And my exact words was HOLY FUCKING SHIT when Dave interviewed the "Vampire Vignette" author G.L. Giles, such a great author! And Peter Kalafatis, the author of "A Rebel Life" was interviewed also. I was able to read his book since he contacted Corix fr. NBzine and I was writing for that zine before.
The interviews don't only focus on a band, that's what made it interesting. From UG media, Horror Actresses, Zine writers... etc. it totally explored a lot of great artist in the UG scene not just on music. And ah, mostly are womyn (women) they interviewed.
This also includes various reviews and links for you to check out. Better get a copy of this one.

LITTER ZINE [ISSUE #1] - PHILLIPINES

www.myspace.com/iskavenger / iskavenger@gmail.com

Photobucket

No, I dont think this is something you will thrash; but I bet you will if youre not into poetry and literature!
This is a half size, an A4 size folded, making this 5 pcs. bond paper into 10 pages back-to-back. But dont get me wrong, making an outline for every page and cut-pste style is not that easy.
Its full of poems in English and tagalong, short literature, inserted proverbsa, and even a short comic strip of blah, blah. Iskavenger ( who I found out is a She) is the editor f this, along with other contributing writers. You cant help but say to yourself hhmmm.. she have a point there..
No, there is no band-related reports, pure literature and art! Not for everyone I must say, if READING like this is not your thing! Haha! Fonda

HOAX CONFLICT zine [ISSUE #4] - PHILIPPINES

First of, just want to say thanx to Erickson Pektus for handing me a copy of their zine. This I tell you, this zine is for those who have a wider perception of the UG scene, the mess-up politics, and humanitys obstruction to itself and to others, govt. issues and so on. As they say, this is a journal so you will be reading long stories and articles which are prodigious, and may not be appealing for others who are not into reading revolutionary or history books (hehe). But this is an interesting zine.
From Hitchhiking past Reflection, When Sigmund Freud brought Clients to Mental Institution, Why we spell women as womyn are just some of the contents you will read. You will also notice some inserted pomes, demo/EP reviews, personal opinions in every page that are meritorious, and additional to my praise, the interview of No Label Zine is very interesting. And the Reality blurs Reality is alluring.
Other interviews include with the bloody all-female hc/punk thrash band Choke Cocoi (hey, how are you girls?) and the ass-kicking band CCFH from Netherlands who went to the Philippines on year 2000. The whole artwork is tight DIY and fucking awesome. I extol this zine, but I do assure you, that this zine is not your typical zine if you dont like reading long journals.

THE PUTANG INA MO ZINE, The Resbak! [ISSUE #8]- Phil/ UAE

www.grandpeligro.tk / imyourvalium@yahoo.com

Photobucket

hehehe.. I couldnt help but to start things with a laugh once I flip and read the zine. Things start off with the words from the Editor which is exclusively hand-written by KJ himself, with the erasures and all.
He took a different feature approach on this zine, because he focused on interviewing the Zine writers, knowing 2 zine writers there in person, Roy (Trendcrusher zine) & An2 (Chronicore zine). The most unique name of the zine that I ever encountered was I used to be a Punk Rocker but Im Ok Now. Well, sounds bullshit at first, haha. Its because the bf of her friend (female Editor), hearing him tel his friend while describing her gf yeah, she used to be a punk rocker but shes ok now hyprocrites! There are a few reviews and great Philippine UG scene reports.
This is your traditional copy-paste zine, A4 size. KJ is currently in UAE as well, and hopefully, hel release a new issue of his zine.-Fonda

WERE GONNA FIGHT ZINE [ISSUE #8] France

Whoa, this guys knows whats hes talking about! Its an International-Political-Vegan-SXE zine. He went to various Asian countries just to check the punk, oi, HC UG scene.. not metal or emo as he says. This is a digestive-size zine, and you ought to read this in a broad daylight or near the lampshade since the typing are of small fonts size, but its worth reading it. Going to Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, & Philippines to check updates. This was release way back in 2005, and he toured last autumn 2004.
From his introduction, he wanted to focus on the exotic places who have great UG scene and needs to be heard and helped by white democratic rich countries (these are the exact words of the editor, not mine). Knowing that the economic and political status of certain countries makes it hard for them to produce zines or even discuss about sensitive matter that may put them into govt. trouble. I salute him really, he even sent money to 2 bands so that they can record their music in good quality studio, which these both bands did.
Here you can read a fully detailed scene from these countries. And take note, he really equips himself with knowledge about the country, so hes not just all words. And, I guess the most interesting if not, the most hot topic is the COLUMN AGAINST RELIGION which he focus mainly on Islam, hehe. This is his point of view as an Atheist, and like what he said, he never forced anyone to believe him or agree with him.
The article about PUNKS IN IRAN, part 1: The countrys situation is interesting. Although he didnt discuss about the punk scene actually, maybe on his next issue thats why he put the country situation on it. You will get to know about the writer more in his own personal agenda column.
As I may say, this is the most informative zine about the music, culture, the country, and even bandz and distro people to get in touch with. Love it. - Fonda

A WORMHOLE, The Fall of Metal and Death of Print {ISSUE #24]- NY, USA.

Uhh.. I cant seem to figure out the name of the zine when I first saw the front cover.. Until I realize that maybe Im just sober or my eye vision is really that blurry since he wrote on the lower part his handwritten word stating the name of the zine.
And I wont forget what my fellow artist said when he saw the reading & flipping the zine he asked is that a manuscript? coz it was only stapled on the left upper side, hehe.
There are 5 interviews in here, and he said it was supposed to be more but the sent-back was taking time. Anyways, I like the WORMS METAL 101 where he made a review of the music in 10 words or less. Thats something new. Although the interview approach is a bit lame since its like a standard or plain question most of the time And why oh why, he reviewed the METAL MANIACS magazine?? Thats so mainstream.
Anyways, I cannot deny the creativity of this zine, this is the total D.I..Y. approach if you ask me. Thats about it.-Fonda

INSIDE ARTZINE [MAXIMUM ARTSCUM] ISSUE # 11 GERMANY

PO Box 2266 D-54212 Trier, Germany / www.inside-artzine.de / jenz@inside-artzine.de

If you want to explore such great art in the most grotesque yet in a beauteous way, then check this zine out!
This is a colored zine that will just make your eyes stare at it endlessly as you look into it. Funny I remember that Jenz said in the NBzine interview that he made it colored to make it more appealing for the girls ( I guess it really did work!).
This zine comprises of various Arts from various artists showcasing their unique talent with their crafts, poems and short mummified stories. From Autopsybabies art, from the crazy journey in interviewing infamous Michael Huttler, misanthropic poem of mxNihil, Eccentric zines to check out, and a lot more.
Remember the big global issue of the Danish newspaper featuring the 12 Mohammed caricatures? That really made a fuzz in the Middle East region, especially that time I was In Saudi Arabia. GCC countries called up to pull-out Danish products.. damn, goodbye LURPAK butter for me that time! Haha! But true, one should accept criticism with their religion or cult you know! I always get into a feud for converting into Satanism. But he also have a point that sometimes, its also better to keep your mouth shut if you know you have your own stench to hide. Fuck it! This zine is great for Art lovers like me! Fonda

PINS & CATHEDRAL BELLS ZINE- USA

Well2x, out of no where this Dave Carter dude sent me his PDF zine on my yahoo mail without proper introduction or whatever, that I even thought it was a spam! Hehe. Then I read his message in the ACZ myspace in which he got in touch with my zine partner Doc Ron. Its the 1st issue of its printed/fanzine, his webzine was running for awhile. So I start getting my specs and reading the PDF. I know should be printing it, but it was my free time at work so I just stared at my monitor.
In this, he have interviews from bands like The Cruxvoid, Acheronian, For Greater Good, and 3 more bands for you to check out! Of all the interviews, The Cruxvoid took my interest since I sense a deep UG mentality by the way the answer questions.
Besides that, theres a literature and poem done by an interesting writer name Kate McDonald, amore like geographic article done by Richard Ravalli Jr, a great advice from GL Giles for indie writers who wants to market their nontraditionally published book and a short literature as well, then The Jersey Devil of the Pine Barrens written by Anthony Pertcaro. The myth of that Jersey Devil sounds like a version in the Philippines called Tikbalang. But Tikbalang is a big human-like creature with the head and legs of a horse. It always sits in a tree called Balete and that it always smokes tobacco. Once you see a Tikbalang, you will lost you way out from the forest or so the legends say. Anyways, The looks of the Jersey Devil looks weird.
Uhh. I got confused with the Construction of 3-fold Orgon Energy Accumulator.. I felt like all of a sudden, I am reading a carpenters guide or something, it even has a drawing, hehe, cool. And I have to admit, I didnt put to one of Raul Cruz article Las Momias De GuanaJuato, but The Mysterians is good.
This 1st issue is worthwhile to have for your zine collection.
