THE MUSHROOM MASSACRE- Bahrain
Interviewed by: Fonda (extracted from Nbzine interview)
'A-C-Z': - 1.) All out shouts to T.M.M.! How’s everyone in your band? How’s the UG scene there?
T.M.M.: – Were all good !! Were finally together and writing music as a unit. The scene here still the same pretty lame because there aren’t a lot of shows to play at.
'A-C-Z': - 2.) TMM started in 2004, tell us how you guys meet up or how you formed the MM band.
SASH: - Well The three of us Midget, Ryan and I started out in a band together thru the later years of highschool we’ve been doing this for the last 7 years and still going strong!
PRASAD: - they lost their guitarist and I was in the same class as midget and well we had the same mind set for music and an insane sense of music, or so I think.
RYAN: - We’ve stuck to our roots and not sold out like most of the people that went to school with us. They still think that we need to grow up. But hey were never selling out till the grave.
'A-C-Z': - 3.) Yeah, I heard metal bands in Bahrain are not that widely accepted (yet!). Do you get in trouble from the Ministry or the law in UG gigs? Does the UG gig takes place in very uncommon hide-out?
MIDGET: – They government think the scene here is Satanic and that were a bunch anti-social miscreants. The few gigs that do happen are usually raided and halted by law enforcement officials, due to the underground nature of the gig. Yes we did as a matter of fact the last gig we played together was stopped towards the end. Most of the gigs that happen take place in beat up hotels or motels. Bahrain is a small place you can’t hide anything from everyone.
'A-C-Z': - 4.) I read your profile on why your band name is “The Mushroom Massacre”, do explain again to our zine readers!
RYAN: - We were heavily influenced by substances of psychedelic nature and we always dug mushrooms especially on pizza. [Laughs]. All four of us have different meanings to the name which makes it unique as The mushroom massacre can mean death, for instance the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Or even the state of chaos that is very prevalent in the world today. We all agree on one meaning that the band name has that is the impact our music has on the immediate listener.
'A-C-Z': - 5.) In general, how do you classify the uniqueness of Middle East bands to those in Europe, USA or Asia?
SASH: - We’d like to think that the bands here are more old skool and hard core with the shit that goes on here rather than following any fads. Plus in Europe or America the chance you get a big break is way higher than in the middle of the desert. Most of The bands posses individual uniqueness brought on by limited resources to music and the do it your damn self attitude. The bands that play only covers here out weigh the bands that play their original music.
'A-C-Z': - 6.) How do you define your music in one word.
RYAN: – “ Un accepatble’’ something your mama’s would’nt want you listening to.
PRASAD: - “ Un predictable”
MIDGET: - “chaotic”
SASH: - “rebellion”
'A-C-Z': - 7.) What makes your music so interesting? What makes you stand out from the rest?
RYAN: - We pride on the unpredictable nature of our song arrangements. What ever comes naturally is what we write we don’t have our formula to write songs with . We love playing what we’d love to hear and hopefully others can share our taste of our music.
PRASAD: - Our live shows definitely are explosive we give a 100% of our selves every time like there is no tomorrow. Carpe-diem to the bone.
MIDGET: - If I can’t see clearly then I’m having a good show.
'A-C-Z': - 8.) You treat each other as a family you say. What is the most hard situation that band has been through? How do you mange to pull it off?
RYAN: - We’ll sash was away in the states for a year , the jamming was incomplete. We also recorded this demo over a long distance we recorded the music and sent it out to him and he did his thing and sent it back .
'A-C-Z': - 9.) How about a very brain-smashing fight between you guys? Do you fight over girls? Hehe.
SASH: - It might sound weird but we’ve only fought over stupid shit like who wins a PS game , midget here is a competitive motherfucker he can’t loose gracefully to anyone. .
RYAN: - As far as girls go we get as much pussy as we want….. NOT!! [ laughs]
'A-C-Z': - 10.) Do you smoke Shisha a lot? Take Hashish or drink Sadiqi?
SASH: - occasionally . Other substances not at liberty to disclose.[ wink]
'A-C-Z': - 11.) Hey, how about heading here for a performance in Dubai or even Asia?
RYAN: - Fuck yeah! Were trying to get some gigs lined up for the middle-east. As for Asia were in talks with some organizers the crowds are fucking awesome can’t wait.
'A-C-Z': - 12.) Tell us, what’s in store for the future of M.M.? What can we expect from your demo?
SASH: - Were going into the studio early next year and hope to get our asses on the road to support the mew material.
RYAN: - Our blood sweat and ears in our music.
MIDGET: - Something with a don’t give a fuck attitude in the music and then some .
'A-C-Z': - 13.) Hey, thank you for your time! This is the last spot on my question! Now spread and promote your band! Wish you all the best guys! Cheers and beers!
