MISTER BONES [MONSTER BURN AND THE POWER SEEKERS] CD- CANADA
www.misterbones.net / www.obskure-sombre.tk
Mr. Bones also came from the band Georgian Skull which I was able to interview in our last zine issue, and this guy is great and music likewise as well. Am I this drunk that’s why think I’m listening to Georgian Skull?? Hehe. Their music is a combination of Stoner metal with a Sludge mixture then a throw of the old Rock n’ roll, and yeah, rock on man! I need more beer on this one, it’s like I’m in a bikers pub when I listen to this 18-track album.- Fonda
NINE ELEVEN ATTACK [GRINDER TERRORISM] CDR - PHILIPPINES
This is a live recording demo consisting of 10 tracks. I totally support and listen to DIY low-recording and all, but honestly speaking…. I really can’t hear much of the guitar, and the mike sound is totally down. Bass and drums are taking over. It’s like “now you hear it-now you don’t”.
They play noisecore political punk music with just seconds per song (not even 1min, cool, hehe). I really don’t want to say much coz I don’t know what more to say; except that I’d better see them perform live to check out the real deal so that I can dignify their music better. – Fonda
RASPATUL [DEVILS IN RENEWED BIRTH] CD - SINGAPORE
www.raspatul.tk / raspatul@hotmail.com / www.obskure-sombre.tk / obskuresombre22@hotmail.com
Another great release from Obskure-sombre records from Canada, though I believe that these guys are South East Asians like us (I think from Singapore? As I read a review mentioning it). Ok, now my husband confirmed that they are Singaporeans. Yeah, their inlay has reviews from various zine writers, which are all positive… so should I make a positive one as well?? Hehe. No need to tell me, got to admit, their music is a recording of death and heavy metal, and pounding with brutal beat and meaningful lyrics (you can’t find the lyrics on the inlay, just listen to it you lazy bastards). More on dealing with how fuck-up life is for humanity & false ideology of god. Ayim even said “Hell is forever! Heaven is man-made!”. And speaking of Ayim (band vocalist), this album is dedicated to him as he passed away from a motorcycle accident last 2005. Damn, condolence for this band. Better have this memorable fucking album. –Fonda
PIN DROP VIOLENCE [RIGHT TO RIOT] CD - INDIA
www.pindropviolence.net / pindropviolence@rediffmail.com / www.myspace.com/gutterment
Holyshit, this band is fucking good! They remind me of Napalm Death, Slayer,, Warfare and Barwhore. The cover inlay art of the album is an eye catcher, a man being pin with barbwires on his face, hehe, love it! It was recorded in India, and mastered/mixed in Sweden.
What I like about the whole package, they can go a bit mellow (not in a mushy way!) and then back to heavy damnation music. The 13 track songs will not bore you, although I sense a bit of Nu metal in some songs (which is not my thing) it was nicely executed by PDV.
I just hope they will stick w/ the UG scene, coz I fucking got surprised when they joined “Channel V Launchpad”… WTF??! Don’t waste your talent guys! – Fonda
SLANG [THE IMORTAL SIN] CDR – JAPAN
www.slang1988.com / www.myspace.com/slangjpn
Ok, you'd better put on your gear and get yourself ready for this fucking hardcore / punk rock Japanese band! Its and endless moshpit surround sound were songs like "rain in august" and "guilty" can make your ears bleed. And honestly, I'm not fucking sure if they were talking in English, ahehe, who cares, the music execution is great. This band has been around in the late 80's with an endless discography (20+ to be exact). They are like the A.D.A. of their country I guess! I'm glad they gave me their 4th full album for review last mid-March even though it was supposed to be release by Mid-April. With influences of Black Flag, Warhead, Motorhead, Exploited, The Clash, etc, I hope this band would still be around for the upcoming years, to bring Japanese bands a great name in the UG scene. - Fonda
SMOHALLA [NOVA PERSEI] CD - FRANCE
http://smohalla.fr.nf / www.myspace.com
This band hails from the gorgeous land of France, which I do know that there are plenty of damn good bands there.
All of their 6-track songs in their EP release are written in French, and my French sucks badly! Ahehe. Anyways, it was never a problem for me because I can just check out the tune of the music. Good thing, they explained in their attached details about the concept of the whole music, were they got inspired from H.P. Lovecraft’s “Beyond the Wall of Sleep”.(check more details in their site).
First tracks takes you to a lovely musical intro, and there’s a female vox saying something that I don’t know what, but the real deal is, the song is like a start off as it will take you from beyond the universe, galaxy and whatever goes beyond there. Now I am interested. I listened to every track as I read the English explanation of every song which was helpful. Yeah, it’s like imagining the story as well.
So, I can say that this band reminds me of King Crimson, The Gault, Emperor, and Dream Theater. It’s a combination of progressive with a touch of ambient and atmospheric Metal. Yes, this band has the talent and skills. Check them out. – Fonda
SMOULDERING IN FORGOTTEN [LEGIONS INTO BLACK FLAMES] CD - BAHRAIN
www.myspace.com/ocr666, www.oldcemetery.tk, info@oldcemetery.tk
After reviewing gore, crusty punk, rock n roll, etc cds for an hr, this is the last cd album I listened to, because I know this is my taste; black metal Well, there's mostly the Intro track in black metal album that will suddenly blast you with the deadly first song. I have to admit, I am not much impress with the vocals though, but the band as a whole is ok. Never thought Rhode Island has much of a Black metal band in their place. Songs to watch out are "All is one until Death", The Fallen World of the Cursed" and "The Reign Carnation of the Judgment Star". - Fonda
