3RD ROOM [FRAME OF MIND] EP- ITALY

www.myspace.com/enterinmyroom

Photobucket

This band hails from the lovely country of Italy, and I do notice that there are lots of Goth & Black metal bands there which are usually fronted by femme vox (good!) This band’s music is not your typical Gothrock or even the approach of the orchestra is not like you are in an opera house, but their music is simple yet the execution of the music has a deeper sense of empowering the listeners. Khay’s female voice may not be the operatic thing you usually hear, but her voice soothes you & may even bewitched you because of her soft yet very enduring vocals. And it is true, their music makes you think it’s a soundtrack from a Victorian or Medieval movie. This is a 4-song EP release only, but their full-length album will be out soon! The song that I like the most is “In My Room” because I do find my room as my sanctuary. And this cd also includes lyrics of the songs, band banner and their pictures as well. Even the video of In My Room is included. So better check out what this classic gothrock band can offer. – Fonda

ABHORRED [THE INFINITE EP] CD - UAE

There are only few metal bands existing here in UAE, and one of the pioneers is this band. This is a 5 killer track EP release. Their music is a combination of progressive and death metal sounds, giving you a toss to the mosh pit! Reminds me of bands like Carcass & Napalm Death. Definitely the song “Eternal Hell” is interesting. Hope they can release a full-length album coz I will definitely be on the line to get a copy. But is it true that this band is going sell-out?! Hhhmmm… – Fonda

CONQUEST FOR DEATH [BEYOND THE HIDDEN VALLEY] CD - USA

www.myspace.com/conquestfordeathsf

This is a 17-track songs, which I can easily picture punks and thrasher pushing one another as these guys perform! Most of the songs take only a few seconds music intake, track number 10 is the only one that is 5 min., this one have a long intro of their musical instrument, then later on the blasted songs comes in. Music is a mixture of punk, thrash, and hardcore that can be great for a house beer party! Not for heavy metalfreaks though, hehe =) –Fonda

DYLATH-LEEN [SEME¯ON] CD - FRANCE

This is the 2nd release of this infamous death-defying band from France and it is still an 11-track album. First song “Buy me a Smile” is a taste of what this band’s music is all about; growls & clear voice of the femme vox that combines with male growl, and well executed death music, that is mixed with the touch of melodic keyboards. “Contain” & “Scars as victories” defines the great duo of both vokillist and are both guitarist as well. Igor(male vox) is the main vox in those tracks which are head-pounding. “Leering Sky” have such a psychedelic approach sang by K-ty which is fucking beauteous. The “frozen reflect in a broken Mirror” shows the angst in the music, but the 7:25min track will end amazingly with acoustic riffs. While “So ill-fated” starts pudding and pausing heavily, and I love the squawking and screeching way it was sang. “My Despair” is like a poetic tale which actually reminds me of one of the song from the Goth/Black metal band Darzamat. All of the songs are great, I like the idea that you can still sense the feminity of the growl, and I simply adore the ‘Adorning Wounds” song. This band will make you aware of what death-melodic bandz from France can contribute to the metal scene. Two thumbs up for this one. – Fonda

GUILLES DE RAIS [IS THIS HOW YOU ENVISIONED YOUR LIFE?] –PROMO CD - SPAIN

www.myspace.com/guillesderais / guilles_de_rais@hotmail.com

This band has been around since 2001, having released 2 albums in 2002 and 2005. They sent me their latest promo for 2008 which is this one. Their music runs in the genre of death and black metal, having 2 vocalist to make things really hard (I enjoy listening to bands with one vox doing the screech voice, and the other the deeper growl). What I did notice is that the lead guitarist is quite amazing. It’s a fast-pace, dead pounding music which reminds me of Obituary and Death, but I’m not saying they sound alike in many ways. I am a bit curious about their past albums though, if they maintain the same music style. The technicality is there, and all I need is a beer while listening to it. Likewise, this promo is ok for me. Songs that catches my attention are Fucked By Them, Why, Optimistic Prayer, and Past, Present and Shit. – Fonda

LILITH’S MORTUARY [PROMO] CDR- MEXICO

myspace.com/xxxlilithsmortuaryxxx)

This band hailing from Mexico defies what black/doom metal is all about. Not the typical long intro or adlib you usually hear in this genre of music. Their promo cd from Felony1 records Metal composes of 4 songs, and I do notice that they have a mellow intro at the start which you can sense the Latin or Mexican guitar to begin with. Then as it goes in the middle, the two killer vocalist will awaken you with their hasty yet enduring shriek and growl. Then as it goes at the end of the song, it goes back to mellow again. What I like is FREEDOM MY PRISON because the beginning starts with this Scottish-like intro (then it reminds me of LOTR, hehe) and how the pianist soothes my senses… just fucking loves this song! Now I do wish their full-track album will be done soon! – Fonda

MIDNIGHT REIGN [NEVER LOOK BACK] CD - USA

www.midnightreign.net / midnightreignproductions@yahoo.com

The first impression that went into my head when I saw the picturesque inlay cover and their flyers is that maybe their music is ambient goth or industrial goth, since there’s a violin and cello musicians; but its more to that. This band hails from the land of killer freedom America! And it is a 10 track album. It starts off with the song “666(is my area code)” on which the stomping beat transcends to a fast pace that can keeps you headbanging. Same goes to songs like “The Hollywood Rx, Never Look back, and Far Away”. But things came differently to their song approach in other songs which fucking reminds me of the good old days of 80’s old school rock, slow rock and I can sense a glam rock influence as well! Like Van Halen, Led Zepp, etc. I never expect it from this band really. “Breathe on Me” intro lead was awesome combine with the lovely cello and violin. I really don’t know but “The Mourning After” reminds me of the song Every Rose has its Torn and I do love it, I like the lines: If there is god, forgive if I choose not to pray even though I’m on my knees anyway. The song “XXX(playground)” and “Kiss the Flames” have this funky beat that goes heavy later on, and there are instances that the vocalist sound like Jonathan Davis, hehe. I do wonder if the song “Goodbye” is dedicated to JM’s x girl (don’t worry, I don’t think you have a girl prob!) and damn, what a killer vocals as he starts pitching high and the screeching riffs comes in. “The Last song” have this vampiric approach that I started to imagine vampire Lestat falling over a human girl (as usual) but he needed to bid farewell to their forbidden love (damn my imagination!) So, to put my words into this album. The vocals have such a powerful voice to think he’s also the guitarist and bassist! Accompanied by 2 lovely lass, and Adam the drummer is great as well. It’s a goth rock mixed with heavy rock that clashes with slow rock, and makes me hope that there should be more album to come from this band. – Fonda
