- Zoroaster
Zoroaster was a priest of the traditional Persian religion. He was wealthy and successful. However, one night an angel came to him and said there was but one god, Ahura Mazda. So, Zoroaster goes home and tell his family about this, and they outright reject it.- Holy BookHe later losing his family and wealth, and wanders throughout Persia trying to find at least one convert. He finally comes upon a city, and the prince accepts his beliefs, and becomes Zoroastrian, this proclaiming it the official religion of his people.
Zoroaster lived out his final days being a priest to this religion, until dying in his temple after warriors of the old religion set fire to the temple. Thus making fire the most sacred element in the faith.
The Zorastrian holy book is called the Avesta. The includes the original words of their founder, within it is a series of five hymns, called the Gathas, which represent the core text of the religion. The Gathas are sacred poetry, directed towards the worship of Ahura Mazda, understanding of righteousness and order, promotion of social justice and individual choice between good and evil.- BeliefsAlso within the Avesta (which are said to be written at a later date) were laws and practices of how they are to act during worship and what have you.
There is one god, Ahura Mazda, who promises love and life and light, and is the only diety worthy of worship. There is an evil spirit of death and darkness named Angra Mainyu- PracticesThe world will go through three eras: 1. Creation
2. Present where good and evil correspond
3. ArmageddonA savior will be born of a virgin that is from the geneology line of Zoroaster who will raise the dead and commit the final judgement
Worship includes prayer and symbolic ceremonies; rituals are done before a fire that represents Ahura Mazda. They also do not take kindly to converts and many believe you must be born into the religion.Motto: "Good thoughts, good words, good deeds"
