Recently, I finally got to see Napoleon Dynamite. Going in I had heard good things about this movie and was really excited. The movie follows a dorky high school student Napoleon, his 32 year old brother Kip, and his uncle Rico. The weirdness of this movie is off the charts, but frankly I loved it. I really like movies that go outside the normal formula for movies. If you go into this movie all snotty and like 'thats not funny' than you won't enjoy it. Despite its qwerky nature the movie's story is fun and interesting, its funny one-liners numerous, and even a good ending with closure towards the characters. This was just fun to watch, and I'd suggest it to anyone. I give this movie...

Recently, I saw "Without a Paddle" in which one of four life long friends is killed while vacationing. The three other friends, Seth Green, Dax from Punk'd, and that actor from Summer Catch thats not Freddie Prince Jr, return to their boyhood treehouse to find that their deceased friend had planned an entire camping trip to find a criminal's stash supposedly lost when he jumped out a hijacked plane. The friends decide to follow this trip in honor of their fallen friend. Most of the movie then follows their misfortunes as they look for this treasure. Going into this I thought it would be a bad movie with limited comedy. I was surprised to find that the preview did not include the only funny parts of the movie. Not a bad plot and the young actors do a fine job at each of their roles, minus Dax he kinda sucked. (The company was great) I give this movie...

Recently, I saw, "I, Robot" with my friend Luke. It's a story based in the future in which robots are plentiful human servants, yet a detective (Will Smith) does not trust these robots. Following the murder of the robots inventor Will Smith attempts to follow the clues left behind by the inventor, before the robots take over. This movie all in all was average. Average story, average acting (Will Smith, enough said), average action. The movies effects were pretty cool but not enough to save the movie from boredom. All in all I'd give this...

Recently, I saw, opening night no less, TROY! Based on Homer's The Illiad, Troy follows the armies of Greece to Troy in order to take back Menelaus's wife Helen whom has fallen in love with Prince Paris(Orlando Bloom). Brad Pitt stars as the greatest warrior of the time Achilles who is convinced by Odysseus to come with the Greeks to war. Simply stunning battle scenes and amazing one man killing sprees by Achilles. Surpassed my expectations in that regard. With so many name actors the acting was A-list, but the dialouge they were given was outrageously cheesy at times. Not as powerful a movie as Gladiator and not as overly gorey as Braveheart. My rating...

Recently, I went with my brother to see Van Helsing. Van Helsing(Hugh Jackman) works for an underground society of the Vatican, traveling all around the world vanquising evil monsters. He is assigned to travel to Trannsylvania where he is to kill Dracula who is begining to worry the sociey. While here he meets the wolfman, frankenstein, igor, vampires, etc.I was going in with low expectations for the movie, but was I pleasently surprised. The special affects were pretty sweet in the theatres. The storyline which I expected to be cheeseball was fairly good although near the end somewhat undeveloped.

Recently, while on vacation in Arizona I caught "The Saint" on HBO. A rather old movie in a teenager's years, but suprisingly good. It stars Top Gun/Batman star, Val Kilmer, as a professional theif. He grew up as an orphan, so he did not have a name, except the name forced upon him by the convent in which he was raised. He was named John after the saint John the Baptist thus in his life as a theif as an adult he adopts the name of a saint for each of his many aliases. Very solid and interesting plot with plenty of action when he is thrown into a Russian conspiracy over the control of the world's fuel reserves. Original based on an old TV show I'm told.

Recently, while on Spring Break I caught "The Ladykillers" with my parents...mistake,mistake. Going in I knew it was R but I assumed there would just be some langauge, boy was there language. Despite the F-Bombs left and right it was kind of a weird movie. This southern gentleman con-man (Tom Hanks) has an idea to tunnel into a Casino vault from the basement of this "christian old colored woman" as he might say. He assembles an odd team of different specialties, but just as they succedd they are discovered by the old woman. So to silence her they one by one draw straws to find who will kill her and in each attempt some unfortunate string of events kills them. Thus the title of the movie, "The Ladykillers". Despite the very odd plot, had some extremely funny parts and it was well made.

Recently, *sigh* I unfortunatly purchased a ticket to Hellboy. Ok I admit I should have known better, but I mean from the reviews it could have been "OK", and I hoped it would surprise me. I was sorely mistaken... The movie opened with an American offensive on a Nazi base in 1944, when the Nazi's were becoming desperate and attempted bring victory using a combination of black magic, superstition, and science. The American force arrives as a reincarnation of Rasputin is attempting to open a portal to hell and summon the 7 gods of chaos, in order to turn the tide of the war. Needless to say they are interrupted as the portal is being opened and they fail. The American director of Paranormal Research with the forces discover a baby demon, and takes it to be raised. Thus Hellboy. Comes down to it, no name actors, crappy character development, no plot development, and poor ending gives this movie...

Recently, I have download American Pie 3, "American Wedding". Overall funny as hell, however not as good as number 2. On thing I didn't like about this movie was the lack of original characters. The singing lacrosse player of numbers 1 and 2 is no where to be found despite him being a major character in the others. Along with him I think the wedding itself could have been much funnier if more of Jason Biggs's orginal High School classmates were included in the ceremony, the only beyond the main characters were the 2 MILF guys from the original who were ushers at the wedding.

Recently, I have rented "Bruce Almighty". The plot of the movie is that Jim Carey's character is a really nice guy and keeps getting screwed and he constantly blames it on God. God gets fed up and decides to give his godly powers over to Bruce. Overall I thought Jim Carey was at his physical comedy best and Jeniffer Aniston was at her hottest. The first half hour was the most funny part of the movie after that the story became a little sluggish and Jim Carey's character becomes less likeable.

Recently, I bought a ticket for "Along Came Polly". Although certainly not the best movie I've ever seen, better than I expected and better than the critics would say. The funniest parts of the movie are between Ben Stiller and his disgusting best friend. So-so plot but once again Jeniffer Aniston, very hot. So this movie is possibly rent worthy, but not theatre worthy.
