10/05/04 - Help is on the way!
When Lyn Donovan of Camden heard of the tremendous aid being sent to the
hurricane victims in the Pensacola Florida area she was relieved, that was until
she heard there was a great shortage of baby formula. Donovan immediately went
in to action calling John Batty of the Rockland Kiwanis club. Before you knew it
the service clubs of this area, West Bay Rotary, Camden Rotary, Rockland
Rotary and Rockland Kiwanis along with area businesses mobilized and in 3 days
had donated money to purchase baby formula. In total 82 cases of baby formula
were purchased and 5 cases were donated by Hannaford of Rockland for a total
value over $2,500.00. After the pallet of baby formula was loaded on a Knowlton
Moving and Storage truck, who through the generosity of owner Rolf Winters, is
delivering the formula at no cost it was found there was still $549.00
available. With the truck ready to head to Florida and no time to secure more
formula, a check for $549.00 was made out to The American Red Cross of Pensacola
Florida which will be delivered with the formula. Barbara Hersey
chairperson of Kiwanis Priority One said ³This is what all the area service
clubs are about, helping children.² Pictured Back Row Left to Right: Barbara

Angels put on this earth is how Van LaLiberte ( center ) described
everyone involved with the Maine Childrenıs Cancer Program. LaLiberte spoke to
the Rockland Kiwanis at its weekly meeting of her families journey as their
daughter Meredith was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4 and today is a
healthy vibrant 7 year old whose cancer is now in remission. LaLiberte spoke of
the many services offered by the Maine Childrenıs Cancer Program which are not
covered by insurance but funded by the generosity of those who give to the
program. Pictured with LaLiberte is Deb Baudanza who organized a Kiwanis team to
walk to raise money for the program and Kiwanis President Everett Spear III.
