With all
the acronyms flying around campus these days, it can get really confusing.
But there's really nothing confusing about an OTM. An OTM is an "Of
the Month" Award. You can write an OTM Nomination for anyone or anything
you think is worthy, as long as you choose the right category. Recognizing
special people or events is an important part of building leadership skills
in people, which is one of the main goals of IRHA. As NCC for Communications,
making sure that recognition happens is my job, but that doesn't mean it's
all up to me. It's up to all of us to see that our phenomenal leaders get
the recognition they so richly deserve. This web site is designed
to show you how to write an OTM Nomination and answer frequently asked
questions about the process.
We should
all work hard to recognize our exceptional leaders and the programs that
they put on. Many people are natural born leaders, and they will continue
to serve the residents diligently with or without recognition. However,
these people need to be recognized by all of us. The fact that writing
OTM nominations is voluntary makes this recognition all the more special
for the people who receive it, knowing that someone noticed all their hard
work and that person took time out of their life to write up a nomination.
One way that leadership is rewarding is when you realize that people notice
everything that you're doing and appreciate it.
Each month,
OTMs are due on the 7th for the preceeding month. For example, January
OTMs are due on February 7th. A committee then decides on the winners by
reviewing the criteria for a successful OTM. These winners are then declared
the school winners. By the 15th, these winners are due to SAACURH (Aouth
Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls) for the regional
winners. However, each month the NCC for Communications revises and cleans
up the winning school nominations to stand a better chance at SAACURH.
SAACURH
then selects winners and submits those to NACURH (National Association
of College and University Residence Halls) for national competition. Each
year, the University of Florida typically wins about 25-30 regional OTMs
and 5-7 national OTMs.
