8/29: Season 1 in the books!
Congratulations to the Vegas High Rollers for being the first winners of The Caesar - The Empire Strat-O-Matic Baseball League Title. It was a very intense and close series against the Destroyers. Just when the Destroyers thought they had game 6 all wrapped up, they looked to Gagne to close it out. But the heavy hitters of the High Rollers lineup proved to be too much and ended up scoring the winning run off a homerun by World Series MVP and number 9 hitter Jose Hernandez. Now that the season is over, bring on the off-season. All contracts are due to Sal by next week Wednesday - September 3rd.
8/21: SEASON STATS!!!
The stats are done!!!!!!!!!! Check out the updated League Leaders below. A complete list of all category leaders will be handed out along with the World Series Newsletter on Saturday at 3:30 at Schmitt's house. Congratulations to the Destroyers for beating the Number 1 seed Rednecks in 7 games to make it to the Championship. The Beers and High Rollers will be playing their first round playoff series tomorrow after work, all are welcome to attend. Mangers will be notified by email if they have an MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, or Reliever of the Year Finalist. Write a brief summary of why you think your player should win the award over the others. Enjoy the stats. PS. the season records have been updated too!
8/20: STATS Update 2
Only the final 6 series remain. I will have everything done tomorrow night. Unofficially, Finley has tied Bagwell for the league lead in homeruns with 17 ... there are many more great individual performances but I will wait to be officially done and till the Newsletter is ready for publication. Tomorrow everything will be updated.
8/19: STATS Update
I am working very hard to get the stats done. I would say I am about 1/3 done. If everything goes as planned, I will have then done tomorrow night, if not I think by Thursday. After doing some preliminary stats on a few certain guys, Bagwell is holding on to the Homerun title only slightly and Millwood looks like a lock for Wins. More tomorrow!
8/18: PLAYOFFS!!!
With the regular season all finished, this is how the playoff picture turned out: Emperor's League 1.High Rollers vs. 2.Beers and King's League 1.Rednecks vs. 2. Destroyers. Stats, Newsletter, and Website all to be updated this week. World Series will be played this Saturday, time and location TBA.
8/7: Dave Squared
Game 1 The Destroyers got off to an early lead as Scott Rolen hit a lead off homerun on the first pitch of the game against the struggling righty AJ Burnett of the Rednecks. The Destroyers offense was then shut down by Burnett and the Rednecks for the majority of the game. The Rednecks made yet another late inning comeback as they scored 1 run in the 7th inning against Rick Reed and then added 6 more runs in the 8th inning against Reed and Mike Remlinger. Two of those runs came from a two-run Luis Gonzalez homerun. The 6 runs in the 8th gave the Rednecks a 7-2 lead heading into the 9th inning. However the Destroyers started a rally of their own with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. The rally monkey's came out as Jeff Kent hit a solo homerun with two outs. The Destroyers then scored 3 more runs in the ninth however closer Kim came in and struck out Mark Kotsay to end the game giving the Rednecks the 7-6 win. The win gives the Rednecks lone possession of first place.
Game 2 The Rednecks got off to a hot start in game 2 as they came away with 6 runs in the first inning against Jason Schmitt of the Destroyers. The Destroyers were never able to recover from the early defecit. Odalis Perez picked up the 9-3 victory for the Rednecks.
Game 3 The Destroyers avoided a sweep by coming away with a 7-3 victory against the Rednecks Cy Young candidate Kevin Millwood. Scott Rolen had a big day at the plate as he went 3 for 5 with 2 singles and a HR. Todd Helton and Adam Dunn each had homeruns for the Destroyers. The loss is Millwoods second straight after going undefeated during the 1st part of the season. Al Leiter picked up the win for the Destroyers. The win brings the Destroyers within one game of first place.
