4-System -Fork

The Double Attack or fork as it sometimes is called, is one of the most basic tactics for outmaneuvering an opponent. Below is a quick example of a Fork that Stormer managed to pull on Little Sally Who. There are many types of double attacks that can used besides the example that Gooseberry gives in his map edge. The creative player will be able to see and create double attacks in many different ways.

Turn 0:

Dalmation has just been nuked by Stormer so he is below full br and will be for 1 more turn. This Gives Sally plenty of time to overbuild south of betty. (Which I later find out is her Home World.)

It seems obvious to wait one turn then move south to betty the following turn, but Stormer fears that Sally will match his fleet and he will merely lose his ships along with the initiative if he does tha,t so he devises a more elaborate plan.

Turn 1:

Stormer moves one ship, an attack, to the West. Now Sally has 2 planets to defend. Since Tommy isn't a builder, she can't build a ship there to prevent the "ship ahead" tactic in the Case Stormer decides to move the attack South and have the rest of the fleet move West to support. Stormer could also move his fleet of 8 ships into betty and have the attack back-track to dalmation along with the newly built ship at Cuelo.

Now Sally has to decide whether to defend betty, or to move the fleet she just built to carmen and defend Tommy. Both are nice planets and will put her down some much needed econ if lost.

This is how it ended up. Sally sent 3 ships to carmen while Stormer backed up the attack with his entire fleet and nuked Tommy the next turn

Sally could move 8 ships to betty and send the remainder to Carmen to cover the single nuking attack. But what if stormer sends in only 4 ships into Betty and the other 4 to System (-2,-1) to support the nuke on Tommy? Sally is now reduced to guessing, even if she built more ships than the 9 needed to defend betty, she only slightly improves her chances she will guess the right number of ships to defend each system. What if Sally built an extra ship the turn before in Carmen to prevent the single attack from moving in in the first place? Well again, Stormer could of sent all 1-8 ships West and still of had a double attack. Even if Sally Manages to guess right the first time. Stormer could always pull the same trick again and again till Sally makes the wrong guess and Stormer nukes one of the two worlds. The only permanent fix would be for Sally to either close off one of the links, or OPEN the link between Tommy and Betty. (That way she could defend Tommy from Betty and Vice Versa)

As Gosseberry says: ...you just cannot overcome a double threat.
