Match Report: -

Another easy victory for Spain in the end, bnut they started off the hard way as Paraguay came forward in numbers and forced the opening goal with an own goal. A rasping shot from the edge of the box was beated away by Casillas but hit Puyol who knew nothing about it.

The score stayed the same at the half time interval, and so the frustrated Spainish coach brough on Morientes the substitute to introduce the deadly striking partnership which he has with club mate Raul. They made an immediate impact and Morientes then broke Spain's deadlock with a header after 53 minutes.

He then added to his tally later when the ball came in from the left, and Chilavert came out into the middle of nowhere and he was able to more or less walk it over the line.

Roque Santa Cruz wasnt going to give up as he sped past Hierro from a long ball, showing lighning pace, at only the age of 20, Hierro could hardly keep up with him. However, the striker did not have any support and the move broke down.

Inside 80 minutes, Spain pushed forward and Raul was tripped in the box, and the ref could do nothing but give a penalty. Hierro converted this to secure his teams qualification into the next round.
